Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs or designee, the Director of Student Life and Engagement (DSLE) is responsible for the direction, supervision, administrative oversight and coordination for the Office of Student Life and Engagement (SLE). These responsibilities extend to all instructional campuses at Baltimore City Community College (BCCC). The director will play a critical role in strengthening the campus life experience for all students. The Director serves as a member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team (SALT), contributes to Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) planning, and collaborates on the execution and evaluation of SEM initiatives.

Responsibilities/Duties
  • The Director supports the development and engagement of student-driven clubs and organizations.
  • The Director implements co-curricular leadership programming and promotes student and organizational excellence and best practices grounded in student development theory.
  • The Director oversees the day-to-day operations of the department including hiring, training, evaluating, and supervising full and part-time staff.
  • The Director provides leadership to the Student Life team by promoting staff development and training.
  • The Director will work with campus leadership to ensure that co-curricular and extracurricular activities align with the mission of the college.
  • The Director provides leadership in collaborating with the college community to assess the student life and support needs of students.
  • The Director will maintain a “Student First” focus and possess high professional standards.
  • The Director maintains a visible presence on campus and regularly advocates on behalf of students.
  • The Director works in collaboration with various campus departments such as the Office of Admi-ssions, the Student Success Center, Mayor’s Scholars Program, Marketing and Communications, and others.
  • The Director will be actively engaged in the creation and support of several large scale campus-wide events such as Welcome Week, Graduation, New Student Orientation and other events.
  • The Director prepares, administers, and manages the operating budget and expenditures related to the department and performs analysis and reporting to support decision-making.
  • Manages the daily operations and staffing of the campus game room.
  • Manages the process for student recognized student organization leadership development, including travel (when necessary).
  • Works cooperatively with the Office of Athletics and other BCCC departments and student organizations on campus to facilitate e-sports activities and other virtual programming.
  • Directly facilitates and manages all co-curricular student activity programs and events related to the Student Government Association (SGA), student clubs and organizations, and student media projects.
  • Works with campus leadership in identifying vendor (and contracts) for campus programs and events.
  • Develop community service and volunteer opportunities for students.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of five (5) years full-time experience in a similar role in higher education.
  • Minimum of three (3) years student life staff supervision experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with working with diverse student populations.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Evidence of active participation and membership in related professional organizations and affinity groups.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in College Student Personnel Administration, Educational Administration, Student Personnel Administration or a related field.
  • Seven (7) years of progressively responsible administrative/management experience
  • Community College Experience
