DescriptionPosition Overview:
Provide in-person and/or online academic tutoring to students. Maintain an effective and positive learning environment.
This is a part-time, offsite position intended for teachers or school counselors with teaching experience currently employed at one of the following locations:
- Crooked Oak High School
- Capitol Hill High School
- Star Spencer High School
OR UCO students who have a GPA of 3.0 in the subject to be tutored and a background similar to participants.
Job duties will be performed at the chosen candidate’s current place of employment, so long as that place of employment is one of the aforementioned schools.
Department Specific Essential Job Functions:
Academic and personal support to Upward Bound Central Prep participants at target schools. Designs and delivers meaningful and relevant academic tutoring in subject area assigned and certified. Addresses individual learning styles (increasing strengths and decreasing weaknesses).
Assists during monthly Saturday Academies.
Experience Required:
Requires a university degree in a related field or 2+ years of equivalent work experience in chosen field that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts. Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results.
Must be a teacher or school counselor currently employed at Crooked Oak High School, Capitol Hill High School, or Star Spencer High School OR must be a current UCO student with a GPA of 3.0 in the subject to be tutored and a background similar to participants.
Experience Preferred:
Evidence of strong organizational and professional skills Computer literate. Minimum of three (3) successful years of teaching experience in secondary schools. Succeeded in overcoming barriers like those confronting the target population. Evidence of school, community, and parent involvement. Evidence of a strong teaching and professional code of ethics.
Preference is given to applicants who have written and oral proficiency in Spanish.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Maintains accurate and current student records. Adheres to all deadlines. Submits Tutorial Report Forms and Attendance Summaries each month. Identifies and recruits eligible students for participation in the Upward Bound Central Prep Program. Assists students' with academic and job shadow software programs. Monitors students' progress, attendance, and behavior throughout the semester.
