WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY’s Department for the Study of Religions invites applications for a tenure-track position in Religion and Politics at the Assistant Professor level, beginning July 2023.

We seek highly qualified candidates whose research, teaching, and/or service demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in all its forms. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Religious Studies or a relevant area with graduate-level training in the field of religious studies.

While candidates should have a firm grounding in interdisciplinary and intersectional methods and approaches, their research and teaching must focus on the interaction of religion and politics in the Americas in historical and/or contemporary perspectives. An ability to teach an introductory religion course is expected. We are especially interested in candidates whose research and/or teaching include (but are not limited to) the intersection of religion and politics, and, in alphabetical order, ecology, gender, human rights (including civil-political, social, economic, or women’s rights), immigration, migration, nationalism, public policy (especially impacts on indigenous and/or minoritized communities), race/ethnicity, sexuality, or violence. The successful candidate will be expected to offer innovative and dynamic courses at the upper level to undergraduates on such topics.

The department offers undergraduate and M.A. degrees in Religious Studies. More information about the department is available at https://religion.wfu.edu. The teaching load is nine courses over four semesters, housed in the Department for the Study of Religions.
