Job Summary::

This position delivers hands-on training for Wind Turbine Technicians, Corporate Training, Telecom Training, Confined Space training and industry specific safety training in an academy-style program and works closely with the Director, Industry, and advisers in formulating, developing, and revising modules, curriculum, and teaching strategies.

This position will also help recruit students for the programs and form sound working relationships with employers in the wind industry for program direction and for securing agreements for field work experience, and other related responsibilities.

Instruction takes place in the classroom learning lab and in the field. Instructors will function as lead technicians while in the field with trainees and mentor the next generation of technicians while working with them in operational wind turbines, telecommunications towers, confined spaces and industrial settings.

Minimum Qualifications::

An Associate’s degree, advanced training or certification is required with verifiable experience in one or more of these areas:

Safety compliance and training with an emphasis on safety at heights and worksite safety with a minimum of three years related experience.
or
Mechanical specialist/millwright/maintenance certification/licensure with a minimum of three years related work experience.
or
Journeyman’s or master electrician license with a minimum of three years experience in power generation or substation work experience.
or
Paramedic licensure with three years experience delivering care as part of an ambulance service or fire service medical response unit.
or
IRATA or SPRAT Level 2 or higher license with three years experience with repair project work on wind turbine or telecommunication structures.
or
A wind turbine or telecommunications technician with three years experience repairing, installing or maintaining Megawatt size wind turbines or telecommunication structures, lines and antennas.

Candidates must be eligible, upon hire, to obtain an unrestricted passport.

Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license, free of infractions that would disqualify them from driving KVCC owned vehicles.

Candidates must have a general understanding of Quality Management Systems and can demonstrate operating under one in previous work experiences.

If necessary, candidates must be able to travel out of state for extended periods of time to deliver or receive training.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience::

Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Prior teaching experience is strongly desired. Corporate, in-house training experience and/or instruction delivered in an academic setting will be considered.

BZEE certified Wind Turbine Technician with at least one year’s field experience in the maintenance of wind turbines of 800 kw or larger is preferred.

OEM converter and pitch system training. Certification as a trainer for safety training is a plus.

Physical Demands::

Candidates must be willing and able to perform work in enclosed and confined spaces as small as 30 inches in diameter and climb up to 450 feet vertically to perform the work of a wind turbine technician in a variety of adverse weather conditions for up to 12 hours per day when in the field. Some night and weekend hours may be required occasionally. Travel on weekends and holidays may be required occasionally with little to no advanced notice.

Finalists may be required to complete a tower climbing test while adhering to industry standards, MIOSHA requirements and College policies.

Must possess vision and hearing levels meeting industry standards at a level suitable for working safely in the environment.

Work Hours::

Normal hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Field work is required and may involve extended hours and weekend work.
