Job Summary

The Staff Associate reports to the REVEST Director and the Intake Placement Centers. Serves as the initial contact person for each refugee, conducts the intake process, and monitors progress in country, including referrals to service providers for effective resettlement process. This is a temporary position.

This grant position will be eligible for participation in the Florida Retirement System (FRS) after 6 months of continuous employment.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Determines the eligibility and intake of clients, per specific Contract requirements
  • Maintains contact with center personnel/service providers to assure receipt of necessary social & educational support services
  • Establishes a file on the clients' history, interests and goals in the resettlement process
  • Develops a strategic plan and course of action for ultimate job placement
  • Conducts case management, maintains database and assists in preparation of reports
  • Performs duties related to recruitment and case file maintenance
  • Confers with client to determine placement in training classes; to include but not limited to, VESOL, CTEC, CWE, and CCC
  • Determines vocational training programs, employability skills & acculturation/civic orientation
  • Serves as liaison with, between and for clients with service provider agencies as well as other departments within Miami Dade College
  • Functions as social worker for clients at local, State and Federal level
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in appropriate field and two (2) years of related experience; or Associate’s degree in appropriate field and six (6) years of related experience
  • Multilingual language skills in English with either Spanish and/or Creole as a second/third language
  • Knowledge of advising, career development principles/practices
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office applications and other computer applications related to the department
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of refugee population specifics and resources at local, State and Federal level
  • Ability to monitor student attendance and complete case management duties
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form
  • Knowledge of Referral system to send students to external agencies for additional resource support
  • Knowledge and understanding of MDC/REVEST organization, goals, objectives, policies and procedures
  • Ability to use scrutiny, creativity and specialized analysis linked to each specific case, combined with Contract specifics
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, and some weekends
  • Ability to work well and provide excellent interpersonal skills in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff

The final candidate is to successfully complete a background screening and reference check process.
