The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business invites applicants from qualified individuals for an open rank tenure-track faculty position in our Management & Organizations Area, with a school affiliation in our Nolan School of Hotel Administration. This position will have a focus in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. The intended start date of this position is July 1, 2023. The position will be based in Ithaca, NY. Rank will be determined based upon academic achievement and experience.
Responsibilities of the position include research in area(s) of expertise, developing and teaching graduate and undergraduate courses designed to support entrepreneurship and innovation education, and service to the Area, School and/or College. It is expected that our faculty teach across multiple schools within the College of Business. Top-level disciplinary research is valued, as is dissemination of cutting-edge ideas and practices to hospitality executives.
Ideal candidates will hold a Ph.D. in the fields of management, strategy, business economics or entrepreneurship, or a related field from a reputable program. The candidate should have teaching and research interests related to entrepreneurship and innovation and an interest in the hospitality industry. The candidate should demonstrate, or show promise for, publishing in the leading management journals (e.g., Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Journal, Administrative Science Quarterly). The candidate, which will vary by rank, should be able to effectively communicate with hospitality industry leaders and have a strong record of (or potential for) teaching courses at the undergraduate, graduate, and executive levels. The candidate must have, or be willing to develop, expert knowledge in the hospitality industry and work in concert with the Pillsbury Institute of Hospitality Entrepreneurship.
Of particular interest is a faculty member who can build a connection to and passion for the hospitality industry, broadly defined, and who can perform research and teach at a quality level that is consistent with the College and School’s pre-eminent status. The ideal candidate can effectively interact with students, faculty and industry leaders and entrepreneurs and enrich the intellectual capital of the school through their research and teaching activities in the area of entrepreneurship and innovation for hospitality, broadly defined. Research should have the potential to influence and interest both academics and practitioners. The successful candidate is expected to serve as a thought leader in the S.C. Johnson College of Business’s Management & Organizations area group and in the Nolan School, and possibly serve as the Academic Director of the Pillsbury Institute for Hospitality Entrepreneurship.
It is expected that our faculty teach across multiple schools within the College of Business.
The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business (established on July 1, 2016) combines three Schools: the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management (Johnson), the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management (Dyson), and the Nolan School of Hotel Administration (Nolan School).
The Nolan School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University is the top-ranked hospitality management program worldwide, with undergraduate, masters, and Ph.D. programs. The Nolan School of Hotel Administration has approximately 900 undergraduates and 160 graduate students. Founded in 1922, The Nolan Hotel School is an AACSB accredited business school, with a resident faculty of 55 and over 14,000 alumni worldwide. Important resources available to faculty include extraordinary access to industry leaders, excellent research funding, the Center for Hospitality Research (CHR), and the cultural and intellectual resources of the Cornell University community. The Nolan Hotel School is housed within the SC Johnson College of Business, which includes the Nolan School of Hotel Administration, the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, and the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management. The college is one of the most comprehensive business schools in the country with 240 faculty and nearly 3100 undergraduate, professional, and graduate students.
The combination of these schools into the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business allows Cornell to achieve the full potential of its business programs by integrating Cornell business faculty and students at all levels and coordinating programmatic collaborations that span Cornell's campuses.
