Organizational Unit Overview:The mission of the college is to serve as a national model for transforming the health of rural underserved regions through excellence and innovation in nursing education, leadership, research, scholarship and practice. The Office of Student Services is part of the College of Nursing in the Health Science Division. Student Services is responsible for the oversight of recruitment, admission, advisement of intended and declared nursing majors, registration, clinical compliance and graduation services in the college. This office serves approximately 1500 intended majors, 650 declared undergraduate majors, 650 graduate students and 30 doctoral students as well as numerous prospective students.
Job Duties :The ECU, College of Nursing continuously strives to create a learning environment and workplace culture that provides opportunity, support, and consideration for all students, employees, alumni, and other stakeholders.
The ECU, College of Nursing is seeking a full-time, Academic Advisor. The Academic Advisor will serve as a member of the academic advising team. The Academic Advisor works in partnership with undergraduate degree program directors and faculty to ensure that students stay on course with professional requirements throughout their program of study. The Advisor participates in professional development opportunities, teaches freshman seminar, and serves on university committees. The Advisor participates in university events and recruitment activities such as Open House and new student orientations. The Advisor is also responsible for recommending and implementing new and improved programs and systems to improve student retention and persistence to graduation.
The academic advisor duties and responsibilities of this position will include the following:
- 75% Provide academic advising and application assistance to undergraduate students pursing a degree in nursing.
- 10% Participate in recruitment efforts that include but are not limited to: programming; presentations, and unofficial transcript evaluations.
- 10% Perform other duties as assigned (i.e., committees, professional development, graduation, etc.).
- 5% Teach COAD 1000.
This position requires a master’s degree received from an appropriately accredited institution and conferred by the time of hire. Teaching, advising, and/or counseling experience in higher education is essential for this position.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation :N/A
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education :Knowledge of college student development; and strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and customer-service skills. Should have strong computer skills and should enjoy working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
