Job Summary:

The Instructor for Automotive reports directly to the Director of Correctional Education. The Instructor may also report to The Chair of Business and Technology Programs. The primary duties of this position are classroom teaching and lab instruction in a correctional facility. Duties include program recruiting, working with the advisory committee, and curriculum development. Teaching assignment may include day and evening classes. Must be able to pass and maintain security clearance in order to teach for the prison. Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduate of an accredited two-year college or university with an Associate of Applied Science and A.S.E. certification is required. Three to five years of industry experience and teaching experience are required. Industry experience may be substituted for education.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of principles and procedures of automotive technology.Experience in curriculum development is preferred.Ability to work with little or no supervision.High degree of communication skills, written and spoken.Evaluate programs and procedures.Communicate with parents, students, faculty and staff in professional manner.Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of students from diverse backgrounds.Plan, schedule, and manage projects and assignments.Establish effective working relationships with others.Promote the campus image.Follow established college policies and procedures.

The employee is occasionally required to sit, lift, push, pull and carry objects up to 40 pounds. The performance of typical automotive repair activities is required.
Classes are taught in an automotive shop in the prison setting. Safe working conditions are of utmost importance as there are fire, chemical, and crushing hazards present. It is expected that OSHA, state, and LSCPA safety and health standards.
