Overview

The John H. Pace, Jr. ’39 Center for Civic Engagement aims to amplify Princeton students’ impact in the world. As articulated in its 2020-2025 Strategic Plan, the Pace Center’s work is guided by a set of partnership principles as well as a student learning framework that centers equity, empathy, and empowerment. The Pace Center annually welcomes half of the incoming class through Community Action as well as offers over 250 summer internships and robust sustained service programming throughout the academic year.

 

The Assistant Director, assessment and learning, works collaboratively across the Pace Center for Civic Engagement and campus to articulate and amplify the Pace Center’s mission, values, and approach for doing service well. They support the Pace Center in understanding and sharing the assessment of the Pace Center’s programming in relation to our partnership principles and student learning outcomes. They recognize and celebrate achievements in service.

 

The Assistant Director, assessment and learning, encourages, supports and invites diverse perspectives in a commitment to the Center's values and its vision to have Princeton University students make the world more equitable by respecting differences and creating access and opportunity for all people and communities to thrive. They provide the strategic leadership and operational management of the Pace Center’s Month of Service program offerings in alignment with Wintersession to elevate The the Pace Center’s commitment to access, diversity and combating systemic racism. The position reports to the Associate Director and Program Director of Community Action.

Responsibilities

Assessment (50%) - Support the implementation of a comprehensive framework for assessment across all Pace Center programming for evaluating student learning outcomes, program efficacy, and community partner impact in alignment with Pace Center, Campus Life and institutional priorities. - Collaborate and coordinate with Pace Center colleagues on the collection of quantitative and qualitative data annually. Manage and administer the Pace Center’s annual surveys. - Convene Pace Center staff working on program level evaluation and assessment. - Analyze, share out and report on assessment findings, including supporting Pace Center staff on using and integrating data in their planning and design. Support the on-going training and development of Pace Center staff related to assessment and data use. - Manage and submit data requests on behalf of the Pace Center. - Partner across campus with stakeholders to ensure institutional alignment and represent the Pace Center on committees.

 

Learning & Development (35%) - Amplify and elevate the Pace Center’s partnership principles, student learning outcomes, and values for how to do service well across campus through the development of a signature learning series for students (undergraduate and graduate), faculty and staff that emphasizes access, diversity and combating systemic racism. - Provides leadership and coordinates the Pace Center’s annual Month of Service and Wintersession program offerings, including but not limited to establishing a strategic vision for Month of Service that supports the Pace Center’s commitment to anti-racism, the celebration of MLK Day and elevating community voices; stakeholder management; operational and logistical event coordination and scheduling. - Contribute to Pace Center-specific and campus-wide working groups and committees focused on collaboration and enhancement of institutional priorities as needed.

 

Awards & Prizes (15%) - Provide strategic vision for recognizing and celebrating achievements in service. - Coordinate the process and selection for annually awarding the A. James Fisher, Jr. Memorial Award, The Priscilla Glickman '92 Memorial Prize, and the Community Engagement Awards, including but not limited to liaising with faculty and community partners, convening the selection committee(s), soliciting nominations and/or coordinating interviews as part of the selection process. - Coordinate annual event(s) to recognize award and prize winners. - Establish and maintain relationships with awardees creating opportunities for future engagement and/or potential mentorship opportunities. - Collaborate across campus, especially with members of the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Students and the Office of Community & Regional Affairs, to ensure Pace Center awards and prizes align with other Princeton service awards and recognition. - Represent the Pace Center on award selection committees for other departments or units. - Maintain a website and collaborate with Pace Center communications staff to elevate stories highlighting award and prize recipients.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent

5+ years of work experience 

Demonstrated experience in building relationships, working collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders, and forming and sustaining effective partnerships

Experience collecting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data

Familiarity with Qualtrics, Tableau and other data collection systems

Experience planning events using resources effectively and efficiently

Experience working closely with communities that have been historically marginalized from the systems that affect their lives so as to always keep the lived experiences of people and communities at the center of our approach to service

Excellent communication skills, particularly in facilitating and presenting information

Ability to act as an inclusive leader to create environments of involvement, respect, connection and community

Ability to organize, plan and develop processes

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-based environment

Experience in a higher education setting

Experience in community engagement
