Position Summary

The College of Education at Michigan State University (education.msu.edu) announces an assistant professor position in the Office of Rehabilitation and Disability Studies (ORDS) in the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology, and Special Education. This position at the assistant professor level is a 9-month tenure-system appointment that will begin on August 16, 2023.

The U.S. News and World Report annual ranking of graduate programs consistently rates the MSU Rehabilitation Counseling programs (doctoral and master’s levels) as one of the top programs in the nation. We are seeking colleagues to be part of our emerging Clinical Mental Health Counseling program who are committed to research, teaching, and practice that promote the enhanced mental health and quality of life of individuals with mental, emotional and/or substance abuse disorders. We are interested in colleagues who share our vision for stewardship of the mental health counseling profession. Applications are invited from individuals with a broad range of professional experiences and expertise including, but not limited to, mental health counseling, behavior health, counselor education, or closely related disciplines.

  • Graduate teaching in all modes of delivery in both our master’s and doctoral programs

    Required Degree

    Doctorate -Counselor Education, Counseling or related

    Minimum Requirements

    Applicants should have an earned doctoral degree in counselor education, counseling, or a closely related discipline from an accredited program, or provide evidence that the doctoral degree will be completed prior to the start of the appointment. Applicants should also have an earned master’s degree in counseling, psychology, behavioral health or a closely related discipline. Successful candidates must (1) have a record of strong scholarly accomplishment through publication and success in obtaining and leading externally funded projects commensurate with rank, (2) be eligible for licensure as a professional counselor in Michigan, and (3) have prior clinical experience as a counselor working with individuals with mental, emotional and/or substance abuse disorders.

    Desired Qualifications

    (1) possession of at least 2 years of research, teaching, and/or clinical skills and experience with diverse disability populations in the areas of assessment, intervention, consultation; (2) ability in promoting inclusive and culturally responsive research, teaching, and clinical practices; (3) developing and maintaining an active positive psychology research program that is supported by external funding; and (4) providing quality mentoring and supervision at the graduate level.
