Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Position reports to the Coordinator of Operational Services for Housing.

  • Supervision of 15 student handymen in the academic school year and 20 to 30 student handymen during the summer.
  • Trains, coordinates, and evaluates the student handymen.
  • Minor repairs including moving furniture, painting, repair to room furnishings such as furniture, ceiling tile, blinds, bathroom fixtures, mailboxes, and other duties as assigned.
  • Schedule student handymen, assign daily jobs, complete bi-weekly payroll and ensure work is completed in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Responsible for putting work orders into the online work order system and performs other duties as assigned by their supervisor.
  • Represents the Housing Department with Facilities Management, Contractors and residential students

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements:

  • Two years combined experience including custodial techniques, outdoor maintenance techniques, general mechanical maintenance, and general knowledge of the following skill trades: plumbing, electrical, painting, and/or carpentry.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal communication, work independently, good communication skills, ability to plan and make decisions.
  • Thorough knowledge of safe working procedures.
  • Carpentry, plumbing, painting, and electrical.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet the requirements to operate a University vehicle.

Preferred Education and/or Experience Qualifications:

  • Three years of experience in the above areas preferred.
  • Experience in supervising is preferred.

Work Hours:

  • 40 hours following the University academic year schedule and the summer schedule; there will be occasional overtime on weekends and nights when we open and close the halls; working in extremely hot or cold weather.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift at least 75 lbs, climbing stairs, climbing ladders, walking to do rounds.
