Computational Materials Science Postdoctoral Position at Clemson University
A postdoctoral position is open in Prof. DP Aidhy’s Materials Computation and Data Science (MCDC) research group at Clemson University.
The position focuses on fundamental atomic and electronic level modeling and simulation of materials using density functional theory, molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo simulations in solid state materials including ceramics and metallic alloys. The scientific investigations will focus on understanding defects in materials, materials thermodynamics and kinetics, and mechanical properties in chemically-complex materials such as high entropy alloys and ceramics.
The successful candidate will also be involved in ongoing data-science activities to develop materials databases and machine learning frameworks while working closely with computer-science experts.
The candidate will get opportunities to interact with various materials science experimental groups, contribute to proposals writing, and mentor students thereby adding to their overall professional development.
The candidate will also be responsible for the following duties:
- Perform research and lead project(s), write papers and presentations, partly mentor/train graduate and undergraduate students.
- Develop/curate materials database and machine learning models
A PhD in materials science or related field or related field, with experience in computational modeling of materials, experience in density functional theory (DFT) and/or molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. A decent experience in coding in python and some level of experience in machine learning is preferred.
Good writing and oral communication skills are required with a demonstrated record of peer-reviewed journal publications. The initial appointment is for one year with a possibility of renewal for additional 1-2 years based on performance and funding availability.
Preferred Qualifications: Strong background in solid state physics and materials science, decent experience in coding, preferably python and some level of experience in machine learningApplication Instructions:
