Classification Title:

Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Technician Specialist

Job Description:

Are you in search of a work family with a passion for Emergency and Critical Care? Do you thrive in a fast-paced work environment? Do you want to put your expertise to use on a daily basis? We want our VTS to work side by side with our doctors reviewing cases, teaching students, and managing cases.

UF Small Animal Hospital is seeking Veterinary Technician Specialists (ECC) for our busy, VECCS-accredited Level-1 hospital. We provide care for over 46,000 patients annually and our team is one of the largest in the world consisting of VTS (ECC) technicians , board certified criticalists, emergency clinicians, residents and interns, and over 70 veterinary technicians and assistants not to mention a client services team that supports the service 24/7. ECC collaborates with 16 other specialties within the small animal hospital including internal medicine, integrative medicine, diagnostic imaging, surgery, neurology, and oncology. The hospital is also supported by a full diagnostic reference laboratory.

Our mission is quality patient care from admission to discharge. In order to optimize care, our emergency room and ICU are split, permitting focused assessment and prompt intervention for both walk-in and referral patients. We strive to provide a positive environment and are proud to promote a culture where technician input, knowledge and skills are valued and respected.

Our VTS play a critical role in training and clinical instruction of the next generation of veterinary students and specialists. This includes clinical teaching of DVM students, veterinary technicians on clinical rotations and ECC residents and interns. We also encourage our VTS to become involved in mentoring other technicians as they work towards specialty credentialing. The hospital provides support for this including mentor-mentee pairings and financial support for technicians pursuing their VTS.

Our VTS work closely with faculty and house officers to ensure patient care is optimal. They help lead rounds, drive patient advocacy, and an overall advocate for patients and staff. We value the skill and knowledge VTS technicians bring to the hospital. As we grow, we continue to evolve the role of the VTS within the service. Our goal is to elevate this position to the status it deserves.
