The Director, Recruitment and Admissions is a key member of the Registrar’s Office & Student Experience’s (ROSE) management team. This position reports to the Registrar and Senior Director, Student Experience and works collaboratively with other key members of the OISE senior management team including the OISE Dean and Chairs and the Director, Student Experience.

The Director, Recruitment and Admissions provides strategic vision, leadership, and people management for the Recruitment and Admissions team within the Registrar’s Office and Student Experience at OISE. The role will manage all functions related to human resource management including organizational design, assignment of work, as well as the hiring, performance management and professional development of all staff. Additional areas of responsibility include the management of budgets and development of operational plans as well as policy, process, and reporting related to Recruitment and Admissions.

Key objectives of the incumbent’s leadership efforts are to increase the pool and the diversity of qualified applicants for all programs; increase the quality and diversity of successful applicants; and increase the quality and diversity of candidates who choose to accept OISE’s offer of admission. In order to accomplish these tasks, the Director must understand the program experience, both academic and non-academic for all programs; the segmentation of the markets; competing programs in the markets; and communications, marketing and selling strategies to achieve the recruiting and admissions goals of OISE. These objectives are accomplished through the implementation of innovative recruitment and admissions strategies, the optimization of CRM functionalities and the high quality, collaborative teamwork of the Recruitment and Admissions staff.

The Director is also responsible for establishing strategies to increase and improve recruiting pipelines domestically and globally. This includes researching and identifying strategies to increase the quantity, diversity and quality of candidates from universities and developing and maintaining relationships with relevant partners. The Director will provide vision and expertise in the School’s continuous improvement of recruitment and admissions automation and systems and will ensure a smooth operational flow of segmented communications to key prospects. In addition, the Director is responsible for leading the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) initiatives for the Recruitment and Admissions team.

The Director is the senior recruiting representative of the programs to applicants and prospective applicants both locally and internationally. The Director defines and directs representation of OISE at recruitment events tailored to the programs. The position manages the resources and staff to maximize OISE’s opportunities in the marketplace and acts as senior management representative at certain events. Responsibilities in this area include working with the Dean and Chairs in setting the strategic direction for each program, creating the marketing strategy, developing, organizing and promoting recruiting events, information sessions and webinars; developing and implementing effective entrance award programs; reviewing applications to the programs; and strategically leading the Admissions team. The incumbent provides leadership in the creation and production of reports for analysis of statistical data to inform future recruitment and admissions activity (evidence informed decision-making) for use in internal reports and for external ranking purposes.

EDUCATION:

A University degree; graduate degree preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum seven years full time, progressively more responsible work experience in recruitment and admissions in a higher education environment, graduate university experience preferred. Experience with marketing/communications, business development, and talent development also required. Demonstrated skill and experience managing and leading a large staff, preferably in a unionized environment. Demonstrated experience in developing strategic marketing/outreach plans coupled with successful implementation strategies is required.

Experience using CRM technology in a higher education environment highly desirable. Must have excellent public speaking and presentation skills along with superb communications skills. Proven experience developing strategic and operational plans, preferably as they relate to student recruitment, enrolment and retention. Experience building collaborative working relationships with multiple stakeholders, internal and external. Direct experience developing, implementing and continually evaluating recruitment, registrarial and/or student services in a postsecondary education environment.

SKILLS:

Strong computer skills: MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); databases particularly CRM systems; use of social media as a marketing/communication tool. Efficient and sophisticated data collection and analysis skills. Superior communication and customer services skills. Excellent reporting and presentation/public speaking skills. Proven problem-solving and facilitation skills in resolution of issues related to student enrolment and retention. Highly motivated with proven leadership and mentoring skills. Tact, diplomacy and proven professionalism relating to working collaboratively. Cross-cultural competence. Well-versed in matters of diversity, equity, inclusion and access.

OTHER:

Demonstrated ability to work independently. Proven ability to exercise judgement, tact, diplomacy and a high degree of initiative. Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines. Demonstrated commitment to quality customer services. Proven success in managing, leading and motivating staff.

Discretion, tact, sensitivity, political skill and diplomacy are requirements of the position as are creative problem solving, relationship selling and marketing expertise.

Excellent interpersonal/relationship building skills, professional presentation and ability to gain trust and credibility quickly.

Research and analytical skills are necessary.

Able to work effectively with a wide variety of people at different levels of the University and with external stakeholders. Ability to deal effectively with a multicultural and diverse pool of mature applicants is required.
