Position Overview
The Department of Mechanical Engineering in the School of Science and Engineering invites outstanding candidates for a tenure track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor. The Department is particularly interested in creative scholars who can make fundamental contributions to one or more of the following areas: the thermal-fluid sciences, energy, and/or robotics. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong track record of managing a sustainable research program, the capacity to seek external funding, and a demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning. Position Summary Merrimack’s School of Science and Engineering programs have a history of providing exceptional undergraduate education. The College is interested in enhancing that identity while increasing its research capacity. Consequently, we are interested in expanding our graduate portfolio within the Department, which currently includes an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering and an M.S. in Product Management. The School currently enrolls 633 undergraduate and 100 graduate students with 56 full-time faculty, 26 part-time faculty, and 13 staff members. Moreover, we anticipate significant growth in the student body after institutional investments that will expand the engineering footprint on campus by 50,000 sq. ft. Other investments over the next few years include new academic programming, increased personnel, and procurement of additional laboratory resources. Merrimack College is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Therefore, we seek candidates with a demonstrated ability to work with students across a broad range of social and personal identities and perspectives. We particularly encourage applications from members of underrepresented groups. Primary Responsibilities: The successful candidates will:- Teach undergraduate courses and/or upper-level undergraduate/graduate courses. Actively involve undergraduate and graduate students in research projects. Maintain a record of quality, peer-reviewed scholarship. Pursue external grant opportunities to support the development and growth of engineering. Develop, implement, and assess curricula to maintain ABET accreditation. Maintain office hours at times that provide appropriate access to students. Participate in Department, School, College, professional society, and community service.
