Educational and Experience Requirement:

High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent and completion of LVN program of an approved school of nursing. Currently licensed with the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners. One year of experience in a clinic or hospital setting.

Nature & Purpose of Position:

To provide nursing care and treatment for patients in accordance with accepted medical practices. Responsible for the general welfare of patients under the direction of the treating practitioner.

Primary Responsibilities:

Performs preliminary screening to determine patients’ primary complaints. Provides assistance and care for sick and injured patients by administering routine injections, tests, and procedures according to the treating practitioner’s orders. Carries out standing delegated orders when indicated. Prepares and assists the treating practitioner with physical examinations and minor procedures when necessary. Maintains supplies, equipment and drugs as necessary. Maintains exam rooms between patient screenings. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications:

Must be extremely accurate in following written and oral instructions regarding patient care. Must be able to communicate effectively with outside medical facilities, students, other University departments, and visitors. Must be familiar with and able to maintain infection control standards as set out in universal precautions protocols.
