The Adjunct Faculty – Education position provides quality instruction andmaintains a positive learning environment in the classroom, with major emphasisplaced on teaching, supporting and evaluating students. The Adjunct roleprovides instruction and monitors teaching/learning effectiveness in coursesassigned by the Department Chair, or other leadership members. The incumbentmust exhibit strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask whileengaging large groups of people with complicated material.

Instructionand Student Learning

 Teaches assigned courses as scheduled and assumes primary responsibilityfor and exercises oversight of the curriculum in conjunction with theDepartment’s policies, ensuring both the rigor of programs and the quality of instruction.  Designs curriculum embracing diversity, in all forms, to foster talent in students while modeling inclusiveteaching strategies, with an understanding of the socio- cultural issues oftraditionally underrepresented groups. Considers individual differences ofstudents in order to design andsupport a range of appropriate learning activities. Participates in the identification of students withacademic or other needs and responds by utilizing an appropriate resource. Usestechnology in a manner appropriate to the nature andobjectives of courses and programs and communicates clearly to students the expectations concerning theuse of such technology. Keeps accurate and appropriate records in accordance with departmental policies.

Maintains attendancerecords, determines and submits grades timely, and in accordance withestablished policies and procedures of the College, and communicates progressfeedback as well as other relevant information to students throughout thesemester. Distributes and maintain accurate syllabi that incorporatesdepartmental, college, cross-college, and instructor requirements. Conductsclasses punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule.Employs appropriate assessment techniques to measure students’ performance inachieving course goals and objectives. Engages in periodic meetings with thedepartment, Lead Instructor, and Chairperson relative to teaching duties andprofessional development.

StudentEngagement and Advisement

Creates a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active andcollaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge, student and facultyinteraction, and support for learners. Maintains posted office hours inaccordance with departmental and policies of the College. Uses technology toassist in communication with students. Encourages a sense of community amongstudents for learning both inside and outside the classroom.

Advises potential or current students within the discipline about theprogram, career, or transfer options available to assist with degreecompletion. Refers students to appropriate student and academic supportservices available at the College or in the community.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: Educational Psychology, K-12 Instruction, Education Administration, Developmental Education, Special Education, Cultural Diversity and Inclusion, Counselor Education, Curriculum and Instruction, English as a Second Language (ESL), Adolescent Psychology, Multicultural Studies, Educational Foundations and Human Development, Learning Design and Educational Technology; in class and online instruction techniques and methods; Microsoft Office; Blackboard; internet research; online communication and record-keeping. Skill in: providing quality instruction; learning technologies and the use multi-media technology to enhance student learning; instructional planning and presentation; incorporating critical thinking, effective communication and other general education outcomes in course content; effective time management; proficiency with online communication record-keeping.Ability to: effectively communicate and use interpersonal skills; create engaging learning environments that respect a wide variety of viewpoints; be sensitive to the needs and concerns of a diverse student population, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities; work independently without ongoing direct supervision; meet deadlines; perform student learning outcomes; maintain confidential and sensitive information, including FERPA; perform complex tasks and prioritize multiple projects; develop, plan and implement goals; work independently.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Education,Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Psychology, Special Education,Education Administration, Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT), Science Education,Mathematics Education, or Learning Design and Educational Technology. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s). 

Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience in higher education.

Additional Information:  This is an in-person position and applicants will need to be in or near Columbus to be considered for the position.May be needed to teach at off campus sites and assist with the instruction of distance learning courses.
