Position Description:

The Fashion Merchandising (FM) Program at Texas State University invites applications for a full-time tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. This is a 9-month appointment with the possibility of summer teaching. All positions are subject to availability of funds.

As a part of the School of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS), the FM program enrolls approximately 375 majors with eight full-time faculty serving the program as well as the interdisciplinary MS/MA program in Sustainability Studies. Our graduates will be among the next generation of product development managers, innovation leaders, buyers, planners and allocators, retail and merchandising managers, and consumer studies professionals.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses; developing new courses to complement and expand the existing undergraduate program; supervising student research at the undergraduate level; conducting and publishing high-quality peer-reviewed scholarly research; pursuing extramural funding and performing appropriate levels of service to the school/college and profession.

Required Qualifications:

  • Required Qualifications for Associate Professor:
    • Earned doctorate in Fashion or Apparel and Textiles or related field
    • Well established research agenda and recent record of publication of original research in peer-reviewed journals
    • Extensive experience (as the instructor of record) teaching undergraduate and graduate students at the collegiate level;
    • Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate student research;
    • Demonstrated ability to pursue extramural funding
    • Experience teaching courses in at least two of the following areas:
      o Social Psychology of Dress
      o Fashion Consumer Behavior
      o Research Methods
      o Design Thinking/Innovation
      o Fashion Technology
      o Fashion Circular Economy
  • Required Qualifications for Assistant Professor:
    • Earned doctorate in Fashion or Apparel and Textiles or related field. ABD candidates will be considered however a completed degree is required for final hiring paperwork
    • Evidence of established research agenda and ability to publish original research in peer-reviewed journals
    • Undergraduate teaching experience
    • Ability to pursue extramural funding
    • Ability to teach courses in at least two of the following areas:
      o Social Psychology of Dress
      o Fashion Consumer Behavior
      o Research Methods
      o Design Thinking/Innovation
      o Fashion Technology
      o Fashion Circular Economy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred Qualifications for Associate Professor:
    • Previous or current external funding as PI or Co-PI;
    • Experience integrating diversity/multicultural perspective into teaching
    • Teaching and/or research awards
    • Industry experience
  • Preferred Qualifications for Assistant Professor:
    • Undergraduate student research mentoring
    • Ability to integrate diversity/multicultural perspective into teaching
    • Teaching and/or research awards
    • Industry experience
