- Independently perform research experiments on an independent project and properly record data according to research protocols under the mentorship of Dr. Grillo.
- Troubleshoot experimental protocols, organize complex data, and analyze/interpret results within the context of the overarching research project.
- Read, analyze, evaluate, and critique primary research to enhance expertise.
- Actively help and/or train other laboratory personnel including postdoctoral scientists, graduate students, and undergraduate students based on professional training or functional experience.
- Establish and manage collaborations between diverse research laboratories.
- Effectively communicate experimental hypotheses, protocols, analyses, results, and project details in one-on-one or group meetings, journal clubs, conferences, etc.
- Actively participate in the writing of research papers, grants, and other documents.
- Attend scientific conferences, meetings, and workshops to enhance the career development of the candidate.
- Apply for extramural funding and training opportunities.
- Mentor junior trainees to enhance their career development.
- Demonstrate continual success in performing increasingly complex experiments or projects that require improved technical skills.
- Perform related duties based on laboratory needs. This job description may change as the research project pro.
- Strong record of research accomplishments and peer-reviewed publications.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills through previous publications and conference presentations.
- Presentations of scientific results at national meetings.
- Expertise in mitochondrial metabolism, hypoxia, mTOR, and/or metals in age-related neurodegenerative diseases.
- Experience working with mouse models of human disease.
- Experience in isolating primary neurons, cell culture, and aseptic technique.
- Previous work with iPSC-derived neurons.
