The award-winning St. Edward's University Marketing and Communications Division delivers strategic and integrated programs including recruitment and retention marketing, content and communications, creative and website management. We strengthen the reputation of the university and tell our St. Edward's story across channels to increase engagement, attract resources, and achieve the university's strategic goals.

Marketing and Communications seeks a public relations and media relations professional with a proven track record for increasing positive external awareness through integrated content creation and distribution strategies, specifically media relations, digital and web content. This position reports to the Director of Communications and serves as a member of the Content and Communications Team.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Cultivate relationships with local, regional and national media to promote awareness of university programs, faculty expertise and timely news dissemination
  • Develop semesterly media outreach strategy informed by data and media insights to align with brand tenets and strategic goals
  • Identify and act on opportunities to proactively tell positive stories that support the university's reputation and strategic goals while aligning with the brand platform and message architecture.
  • Provide consultation on writing and development of op-eds, thought leadership essays and faculty profiles
  • Transform technical and academic content into compelling stories that will position Edward's University as an expert resource for media and journalists
  • Assist with distribution of information and media response for crisis and issues management
  • Collaborate with marketing colleagues to develop and execute content optimization strategies aligned with media relations outreach
  • Contribute to integrated marketing content efforts through development of news center features or other web content as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree, from an accredited institution, in communications, journalism, public affairs, public relations, marketing, or related field
  • Three to five years of experience in public relations with an emphasis on media relations and strategies for highlighting company experts and leadership
  • Must demonstrate a proven track record of experience in leading media relations, media pitching and assisting with reputation/brand public relations
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills and familiarity with using AP and Chicago Style
  • Strong communication skills including written, verbal and presentational
  • Submission of work samples Please include links of copies to press releases, media coverage and spokesperson quotes, communications campaigns, or digital content
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and within a collaborative team-oriented environment
  • Collaborate effectively with marketing office team, campus partners, and a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Must maintain high level of confidentiality and discretion
  • Background in higher education or nonprofit organizations, preferred
