JOB SUMMARY

The Office of Global Affairs seeks a Director of Global Partnerships and Outreach to lead the Global Partnerships and Outreach unit of Global Affairs. In this role, the Director manages the development and implementation of global projects and initiatives, facilitates agreements between UConn and its international partners, and oversees the Global Training and Development Institute to implement education and training programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages the overall development and implementation of special global initiatives and projects, which may include local and international workshops and events, curricular projects and course development, student and staff mobility and engagement, budget and funding requests, and marketing. The Director serves on advisory boards, convenes working group meetings with members from the University, the local community, and international partner institutions, sets agendas, and conducts follow-ups.
  • Builds, maintains, and manages UConn global partnerships and agreements, including agreements of cooperation, exchanges, and student/faculty mobility, program agreements, service/capacity building project agreements, consortium agreements, clinical agreements, and dual degree agreements.
  • Establishes policies and procedures related to global partnerships and agreements, liaises with UConn’s Office of the General Counsel to ensure compliance with State laws and contract regulations, and coordinates input from relevant University stakeholders as needed to inform policy and procedures.
  • Directly supervises and evaluates professional and student staff responsible for global initiatives and partnership work. Recommends staffing needs for Global Partnerships and Outreach to the Vice President and Associate Vice President for Global Affairs. Determines work assignments and schedules and resolves personnel issues.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for UConn schools, colleges, and faculty who are interested in entering into partnership agreements with institutions abroad. Advises faculty, staff, students, and external partners on matters related to global partnership policies and procedures, UConn’s global activities, and UConn-U-21 relationships and activities.
  • Oversees global partnership database and collects information from University stakeholders on global mobility, projects, grants, and publications, to create robust partner profiles that can be accessed through a reporting dashboard. Uses data to identify trends and evaluate the effectiveness of partnerships and international engagement.
  • Oversees the Global Training and Development Institute to implement grants supporting education and training programs.
  • Coordinates efforts with other unit Directors within Global Affairs to support global initiatives, data collection, and reporting for Global Affairs.
  • Develops symposia and collaborative programs with partner institutions and leads UConn’s participation in such initiatives.
  • Manages UConn’s engagement in the Universitas 21 network, including faculty and student recruitment for U-21 programs. Manages Global Affairs engagement in other global network initiatives.
  • Evaluates processes within Global Partnerships and Outreach, GTDI, and Global Affairs; identifies problems and institutes changes, or makes recommendations for major changes.
  • Oversees the coordination and logistics for activities related to global partnerships, including international partner visits, inventory of activities, and preparation of briefings.
  • May require travel and work outside of standard work hours.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    1. Master’s degree in a related field.
    2. At least five years of professional experience managing programs, projects, and events, with at least one year of experience leading a team or providing oversight of large projects.
    3. Outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
    4. Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with strong attention to detail.
    5. Proficiency in MS Office applications.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    1. Experience supervising professional staff.
    2. Experience working in international partnerships, multinational colleges or institutions, or managing global educational programs.
    3. Knowledge of policies, regulations, and best practices related to international partnerships and contractual agreements.
    4. Multilingual or proficiency in a language other than English.
    5. Experience working in a higher education environment.
    6. Global living, work, or study experience.

    APPOINTMENT TERMS

    This is a 12-month full-time position with working hours between 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. The University offers a competitive salary, outstanding benefits including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment. Salary will be commensurate with the successful candidate's background and experience.
