JOB SUMMARY

The Academic Program Assessment Administrator (Educational Program Administrator) will play a crucial role in developing and managing an infrastructure for assessing student learning at the program level. This position is based in the Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning (CETL) and will report to the Executive Director of Academic Program Assessment and Learning Initiatives.

UConn is currently in the second year of an ambitious five-year plan to develop a culture of assessment across all undergraduate and graduate programs at the University, with a focus on identifying inequitable outcomes, and improving equity and inclusion across all academic programs. This initiative is a collaboration between CETL and the Office of the Provost and has resulted in the development of the Office of Academic Program Assessment (OAPA). The Academic Program Assessment Administrator will be crucial to the success of OAPA, with a focus on developing an infrastructure for assessment activities; supporting faculty and academic programs to develop program-level objectives, aligning courses and course-level objectives and indirect and direct measures of learning to program-level and course-level objectives; supporting faculty directly in their use of software and course/program level student learning outcome alignment; and the presentation and analysis of direct and indirect data related to student-learning outcomes. The role will also include the coordination and management of day-to-day administrative activities in OAPA, including planning, developing, and designing professional development sessions for faculty related to assessment, and coordinating the assessment reporting cycle for academic programs.

The successful candidate will be confident in working independently, particularly related to the implementation of new assessment software. They must also provide individual support and training to faculty in a full range of academic disciplines and engage with different methods of assessing student learning as appropriate to varied academic fields.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide individual support and training to faculty across academic disciplines to align methods of assessing student learning to their assessment plan.
  • Assist and advises faculty and academic programs in the use of a variety of direct and indirect measures to collect data, evaluate information, and prepare analytical reports related to program-level student learning outcomes.
  • Support academic units with data collection and data entry for analysis and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain guidance materials and resources pertaining to assessment, including those related to data management and visualization, including material for the OAPA website.
  • Coordinate and manage the implementation of assessment software across the institution.
  • Plan, develop and provide direct support and training to faculty on the use of assessment software.
  • Manage general administrative operations and processes for the Office of Academic Program Assessment related to the academic program assessment cycle, the University Student Learning Assessment Committee, and other programming.
  • Supervises student workers.
  • Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree.
  • Minimum of three years of work experience in higher education. One year of experience must be serving as an advanced team member.
  • Experience with data-driven strategies to advance student success through continuous curricular improvement and through program-level and course-level alignment of learning objective to assessment measures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research and best practices related to the assessment of student learning in a higher education setting.
  • Familiarity with software related to teaching and learning (learning management systems, assessment software, e.g., Blackboard/Anthology, or comparable programs).
  • Demonstrated evidence of furthering equality, diversity, inclusion, social justice, and access in higher education.
  • Ability to perform quantitative and qualitative analysis, including but not limited to pivot tables in Excel, developing surveys, and data analysis.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of three years in a full-time faculty position in higher education.
  • Experience in curricular improvement, in assessment of learning, or instructional design in a higher education setting.
  • Experience working with faculty in relation to the assessment of student learning objectives.
  • Experience with writing learning objectives, mapping program learning objectives to course objectives, and writing rubrics.
  • Experience planning and conducting group and individual trainings or consultations related to curricular improvement.
  • Experience supporting the assessment of general education learning outcomes.
APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, permanent position. The University offers outstanding benefits, including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment. The competitive salary range for this position will be from mid-60's to upper 70's commensurate with education and experience. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).
