Director of Accounts Payable, Office of the Chief Financial Officer Georgetown University

Job Overview

The Director of Accounts Payable is responsible for all operational activities of the Accounts Payable department, as well as accounting, reconciliation, and development of controls, policies, and procedures related to the University's payable expenses of approximately $400 million. This includes but is not limited to:
  • Directs and coordinates the activities of the Manager of Accounts Payable and the four (4) Senior Accounts Payable Analysts under supervision, including but not limited to:
    • Invoice preparation, processing and approval
    • Expense report preparation, processing, and approval
    • Supplier record management
    • Payment settlement
    • Cancellation of checks, stop payments, corrections, voids, and reissuance of payment
    • ACH file and positive pay file management
    • Assuring timely and accurate response to customer service inquiries from suppliers and internal contacts about invoice processing and payment status
    • 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC tax file generation and mailing to suppliers
  • Manages payables accounting, including developing controls, performing bank reconciliations, systems reconciliations, and other general ledger reconciliations, as well as supervising error correction.
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for all payables records requested by external auditors performing the financial statements audit, uniform guidance audit, and systems and IT general controls audit.
  • Develops of university-wide policies and procedures regarding payables management, and promulgation of said policies to key constituencies and via the OCFO website.
  • Develops and monitors key performance indicators, and writing operational and trend reports to assure payables are managed efficiently and effectively.


Work Interactions

Reporting to the AVP for Revenue, Receivables and Payables, the Director of Accounts Payable supervises four (4) Senior Accounts Payables Analysts, as well as the Manager of Accounts Payable, who supervises three (3) junior Accounts Payable customer service representatives.

Within the Office of the CFO, the Director provides direct and critical support to the Treasury, Strategic Sourcing, Procurement, and Tax departments; and interacts heavily with the Director of Receivables and Payables Systems in the OCFO and the Director of GMS Financials in UIS. They also interact heavily with OCFO's reporting resources, the UIS Business Intelligence team, and Facilities and UIS teams - in both finance and non-finance roles. As well, the Director interacts with many Senior Business Managers, Financial Managers, and non-financial faculty and staff as they seek support in assuring that invoices and expense reports are paid timely and accurately.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in progressively more responsible roles in a finance, accounting, or business operation
  • 5 years of management experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills


Preferred qualifications
  • CPA or similar credential
  • Advanced degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field
  • Experience in a higher education environment
  • Experience with Workday's financials system
  • Experience with Viewpost and/or AppZen systems
