The Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development has been recognized globally as an Exemplary Career Center for providing comprehensive career services to undergraduate and graduate students at Binghamton University. The Fleishman Center seeks to prepare students for success in a global society through early career engagement and exploration, career and internship education and resources, employer and alumni engagement opportunities, and strong campus partnerships. About the Position:


The career success program specialist manages Fleishman Center efforts that support students' career readiness and provide economic support for Binghamton University students. The specialist provides direct career support and programming for Binghamton University graduate students and manages three programs that offer career opportunities and financial support for students: 1.) scholar programs funded by the Jewish Foundation for Education of Women, 2.) funding programs to support summer internship experiences, and 3.) financial wellness initiatives.


Graduate Student Career Readiness (approximately 20% of the time) -


The Career Success Programs Specialist provides direct career support for graduate students through collaborative programming and one-on-one career coaching. The specialist will be responsible for outreach to graduate student organizations and The Graduate School to create and offer graduate career readiness programming. In addition, they will provide career coaching appointments for graduate students on topics including CVs and cover letters, interviewing, career decision making, etc.


JFEW Scholars Programs (approximately 50% of time is allocated to this task) -


The Career Success Programs Specialist is responsible for the implementation of the programmatic elements of the JFEW programs with primary responsibility for the 4-year JFEW Leadership and Career Development program. Responsibilities include:


Program Delivery


  • Develop a cohort-based framework where scholars can build relationships with each other and reflect on their activities during seminars and workshops.
  • Plan and implement Career Development Workshops and career consulting services in partnership with Fleishman Center staff and University partner offices.
  • Act as the main point-of-contact for all Scholar communication including, but not limited to: scheduling, attendance, assignments, Scholar contract requirements, GPA issues, etc.
  • Instruct online courses, CDCI 200 Bridging Academics to Careers and CDCI 395 Academic Internship for JFEW Scholars.
  • Liaison to SUNY for JFEW Program in International Relations and Global Affairs, a two-year scholarship program for female Binghamton University students entering their Junior Year.

Program Administration


  • Prepare the Annual and Financial reports in partnership with the Development Office, Financial Aid and Student Records, and the Binghamton University Foundation.
  • Partner with Fleishman Center budget manager to track and reconcile expenses budgeted in the program.
  • Coordinate the semester verification report process with the Development Office and JFEW, ensuring timely communication between partners.
  • Guide recruitment efforts for both programs.

Internship Funding Programs (20% of time) -


The specialist will also oversee management of internship funding opportunities that award approximately $100k-$125k each summer to support students with demonstrated financial need who are pursuing internship opportunities. This includes coordinating the application process, leading the awards committee, increasing students' awareness of funding opportunities, and monitoring students' eligibility for certain funding programs.


Financial Wellness Initiatives (10% of time) -


The specialist will work with our partner, Visions Federal Credit Union, to coordinate financial wellness programs, events, speakers and resources to support the economic mobility and knowledge of Binghamton University students.


Additional Responsibilities -


  • Offer 1:1 career coaching appointments for graduate students
  • Serve on the Arts & Communication career cluster team
  • Provide career education programs and workshops by request


Requirements:


  • Master's degree
  • Evidence of commitment to college student success.
  • Demonstrated experience working cooperatively and collaboratively with multiple stakeholders, including students, donors, staff and faculty with diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Organizational and operational skills to effectively manage all aspects program administration
  • Must share core values of campus collaboration, high ethical standards and dedication to what is best for students, employers and Binghamton University.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Master's Degree in education, social science, or a related field
  • Experience coordinating a grant-funded program
  • Preferred knowledge of career management and higher education systems, such as Handshake and Banner.
  • Self-starting, creative professional with the ability to create and maintain collaborative relationships and adapt to change while handling multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

History

Binghamton University opened its doors as Triple Cities College in 1946, to serve the needs of local veterans returning from service in World War II. Originally located in Endicott, N.Y., five miles west of the present campus, the fledgling school was a branch of Syracuse University.

Four years later, the college was incorporated into the State University of New York (SUNY) and renamed Harpur College in honor of Robert Harpur, a Colonial teacher, patriot and pioneer who helped settle the area west of Binghamton.

In 1961, the campus moved across the Susquehanna River to Vestal. Growing enrollment and a reputation for excellence soon led to the selection of Harpur College as one of four doctorate-granting University Centers in the SUNY system.

In 1965, the campus was formally designated the State University of New York at Binghamton, and in 1992, Binghamton University was adopted as our informal name.
