The Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences at the University of Delaware invites applications for an assistant or associate professor in the clinical science program (continuing-track) who will serve as the Director of the Psychological Services Training Center (PSTC) to begin September 1, 2023. The faculty member’s primary roles will be directing the Psychological Services Training Center (PSTC) and collaborating with the Center for Training, Evaluation, and Community Collaboration (C-TECC). This position is a rich mix of activities including clinical services/training, teaching graduate and undergraduate clinical courses, administration, and community program evaluation and development.
The Director of the PSTC, in collaboration with other faculty in the Program and at C-TECC, will be responsible for all aspects of administration, training, and development of the clinic, including a planned large expansion expected to occur in 2023 at the University’s health sciences campus. The PSTC trains students and provides community services in the State of Delaware and surrounding areas. Services include evidence-based assessment and treatment for a variety of behavioral and mental conditions. The PSTC serves clients across ages from toddlers to older adults. In its primary role as a training center, the PSTC provides comprehensive didactic and practical training for graduate students in clinical psychology and adjunctive training for undergraduate students. This position will involve a mix of all activities related to the PSTC, including didactic teaching/training/supervision.
The PSTC and C-TECC have a shared value for increasing access and quality of care for the diverse populations served at our clinic, and within the context of our community training and evaluation projects. We also strive to champion values of diversity, equity, and inclusion with students who train in our centers. The Director has a primary responsibility to lead these efforts.
The PSTC and C-TECC collaborate with other University of Delaware clinics and centers, including the other Health Clinics, as well as the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, and the Center for Counseling and Student Development. The Director will work with allied faculty, students, and staff to further the collaborative missions of the PSTC and C-TECC. The PSTC and C-TECC Directors will also work closely together on the centers’ shared vision to expand access to, train, and evaluate evidence-based services in the community through grant-related projects.
QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: We are seeking an exceptional candidate in clinical psychology. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. from a PCSAS or APA accredited clinical psychology program. In addition, applicants must have a breadth of experience in psychological services, and a demonstrated commitment to clinical science and training in evidence-based practice. The candidate must also demonstrate a commitment to expanding access and quality of services to underserved and diverse populations, as well as a mission to lead the PSTC’s focus on diversity, equity and inclusion with our trainees.
Preference will be given to applicants who are licensed or license-eligible as a Psychologist in the State of Delaware, and who have demonstrated experience in training and supervising students in evidence-based practice, the evaluation of community services, administration of clinic procedures, and collaboration with community stakeholders.
Responsibilities will include duties in clinical services, research and evaluation, and administration. The faculty member will train students to provide high-quality evidence-based treatment at the PSTC. In addition, the Psychologist will help with administrative duties at the PSTC and C-TECC, including assisting with research and evaluation on special projects.
PSYCHOLOGICAL AND BRAIN SCIENCES AT UD: The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Delaware (https://www.psych.udel.edu/) is within the College Arts and Sciences. The department is home to roughly 1200 undergraduate majors and 400 minors and offers degrees in both Psychology and Neuroscience. The department is organized around four concentrations of research and graduate training that is highly collaborative and interdisciplinary. Our graduate students and full-time faculty conduct basic and applied research in behavioral neuroscience, clinical science, cognitive psychology and social psychology. We promote the principles of equity and inclusion within our department and beyond through recruitment and retention, graduate training, clinical work, research, service and teaching, as well as through open and productive dialogue.
This position will complement the Clinical Science Program’s existing strengths around psychopathology and intervention science. Accordingly, this position will likely involve facilitating translational research and applying findings in service provision and/or training students. The Department is also an innovative hub for psychological science and includes active researchers studying a range of psychological phenomena relevant to clinical science. This research includes studies of the basic neural mechanisms of behavior at our state-of-the-science fMRI center, genetic and epigenetic mechanisms, and social/physiological processes relevant to well-being. Therefore, the position will be housed within an exciting, innovative, and collaborative Department that will facilitate the successful candidate’s work.
