Responsibilities Reporting directly to the President, the newly created position of Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) will serve on FSU's Leadership Team. In partnership with the head of University Communications, the CMO will forge, implement, and manage holistic, high-level, and multi-faceted marketing and brand strategies that highlight FSU’s many assets and ensures FSU is consistently, accurately, effectively, inclusively, and more proactively communicating content that enhances the recognition of the uniqueness of FSU’s community and supports the University’s mission, vision, and strategic goals.

Working with academic and administrative leaders throughout FSU, the CMO will provide leadership and vision for all internal and external marketing activities for FSU, including institutional branding, advancement marketing, admission marketing, social media, and web development.

The CMO will lead a team of talented marketing professionals, in addition to outside freelance and agency contractors, and will work with marketing and communications efforts in Admissions/Enrollment, Institutional Advancement, Athletics, University Communications, and leaders across campus to develop a clear, unified vision and direction in how best to target and proactively engage specific external and internal audiences, including prospective and current students, board members, parents, alumni, donors, faculty and staff, the academic community, and industry leaders across a range of digital, print, and associated platforms, to include FSU websites, as well as all social media platforms and all facets of the University’s online presence.

This individual will be tasked with elevating FSU’s brand and communicating its story and impressive trajectory to the world at large, with strategies that reflect the University as a whole, while celebrating the unique strengths and histories of its 18 independent colleges, the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, branch campuses in both Panama City, FL and the Republic of Panama, Athletic excellence, and its enduring legacy and partnership with the Seminole Tribe of Florida. This will include the invigoration of past practices with fresh, creative, bold tactics, and the modernization of modes of communication, creating integrated campaigns and targeted strategies designed to better market content that supports university goals and reflects the FSU of today and the future.

Qualifications Master’s degree in marketing, communications, advertising, journalism, business administration, or other appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and eight years of appropriate experience.

Marketing Strategy and Operations:

A brand champion with a track record of success in developing, implementing, and maintaining dynamic marketing strategies to support institution goals, enhance reputation, elevate awareness, and motivate key audiences. Success developing and implementing creative solutions to marketing challenges, with expertise using a range of digital and traditional media channels and platforms to advance institutional priorities and messaging. Experience evaluating the strengths of existing marketing and communications campaigns and identifying opportunities for improvements. Demonstrated leadership success in aligning communications, including distributed efforts, into a central marketing strategy. A calm, consistent, inclusive servant-leadership style, along with outstanding strategic planning and resource management skills and demonstrated success providing high-level and timely service, while administering a complex operation with multiple objectives, competing directions, and a high volume of inbound requests with limited resources. Strong understanding and demonstrated track record of success utilizing technology, along with an appreciation for research and analytics and how data can inform and educate decision-making. Experience with web-based marketing and communications, social media, and interactive marketing with proven success utilizing a wide range of social media platforms to proactively engage audiences. Advanced expertise of all major social media and microblogging platforms. Extensive background in written and visual storytelling, creative components of visual media, and graphic design, as well as a strong understanding of copywriting, and the mechanics of the publishing process. Highly developed skills in overseeing website development and content creation for websites, with experience partnering with I.T. to develop cohesion across microsites, when applicable, all facets of consideration for user interface, as well as SEO, mobile optimization, and strong back-end technologies to support web speed, traffic, and adaptability to heavy interactive multimedia content. Knowledge of government relations techniques is desired, especially pertaining to the priorities and challenges of public higher education. Staff Management and Support:

Demonstrated success managing and motivating staff across a range of functional disciplines, with experience recruiting, developing, leading, evaluating, and retaining a diverse and productive team. Success building a unified organizational culture, with collaborative, cross-functional teams. An accessible, caring, facilitative leadership style, with the ability to mentor, inspire, and empower staff with respect and kindness; a commitment to transparency, collaboration, and fairness; and the ability to balance these with the needs for expediency, decisiveness, and accountability. Ability to demonstrate a strong sense of personal accountability and requires the same discipline from staff. A leader who acknowledges and celebrates individual and collective staff success. Track record of prioritizing and promoting the professional development of staff, leadership, and of self. Preferred Advanced degree preferred
