The Department of Emergency Medicine at Stanford University is seeking a Board-Certified Pediatric Emergency Medicine physician to join the Department as an Associate or Full Professor in the role as Inaugural Pediatric Emergency Medicine Division Chief within the Stanford Department of Emergency Medicine.

The position includes a full-time appointment at Stanford University School of Medicine in the University Medical Line or the Clinician Educator Line. The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the University Medical Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. The major criterion for appointment as Clinician Educators is excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, teaching, administrative and/or scholarship appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. Academic rank and line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

The Pediatric Emergency Medicine Division Chief is involved in all aspects of managing the Pediatric Emergency Department, its faculty, and will work closely with the Chair of Emergency Medicine, Lucille Packard Hospital leaders, and hospital administration. The Pediatric Emergency Department provides multidisciplinary care at Lucille Packard Children's Hospital, a world-renowned, academic pediatric medical center with over 20,000 Pediatric Emergency Department visits annually. The Pediatric Emergency Medicine Division Chief will be integral in managing a new state-of-the art 16-bed Pediatric Emergency Department as we anticipate construction will be completed by Summer 2022.

The Pediatric Emergency Medicine Division Chief will be an integral part of Departmental Leadership Team and will be responsible for enhancing the pediatric emergency medicine clinical, educational, research, and operational goals within the Department of Emergency Medicine. The successful candidate will have broad administrative, academic, and clinical practice management experience within a complex, pediatric tertiary care medical center. We seek individuals with a successful track record of strong leadership skills, broad academic experience in research and education, and outstanding clinical service. Preference will be given to candidates with an established track record of peer-reviewed research and extramural funding.

The successful candidate will work with the Chair of Emergency Medicine and Departmental Leadership to optimize the following in the Pediatric Emergency Department:
  • Leadership and oversight of operational performance, clinical quality, and service delivery
  • Operational performance, including achieving desired quality, patient and provider experience, and financial performance indicators
  • Develop the academic careers of existing faculty and recruit and mentor new with a particular interest in recruitment of research-oriented faculty with the potential for extramural funding
  • Work with fellowship and residency program directors to create innovative educational programming

Clinical responsibilities will include patient care in the new Pediatric Emergency Department within Stanford Medicine. The pediatric emergency medicine faculty consists of board-certified pediatric emergency physicians with broad scholarly interests. The Department of Emergency Medicine at Stanford University sponsors 13 fellowship programs including an ACGME accredited Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship, a four-year residency program, required and advanced student clerkships, and several courses available to learners throughout our Stanford University.
