St. Norbert College, a nationally-ranked, private, Catholic, liberal arts college is seeking a part-time Mail Center Assistant. This position works 20 hours per week during the academic year (off in the summer and during academic breaks).

The Mail Center Assistant assists with Mail Center daily functions, in order to meet sorting, distribution, delivery and daily pick-up deadlines. This position also assists with the Bulk Mail Operation and Central supply system.

Specific responsibilities:

Assist customers at the service desk, in the selling of stamps, mail supplies, office supplies, metering mail, and processing of outgoing packages. Ability to perform the analysis of which service best meets customer needs - 35% 

Participate in the sorting, processing and delivery of all incoming and outgoing mail and packages for students, faculty/staff, and campus departments. - 65% 

Perform additional duties as assigned and attend College required training. Regular attendance is required. Work in a manner that is aware of personal safety and the safety of others and observe safety, health and sanitation codes, regulations, or practices required by the College or governmental authority.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
Education -

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience and Credentials -

  • 1 year mailing services experience

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse campus environment or commitment to do so as an employee of St. Norbert College.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities -

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

  • Ability to interact professionally with coworkers and customers, particularly in conflict situations.

  • Ability to communicate politely and resolve customer service issues.

  • Ability to multitask, meet specific deadlines, and prioritize tasks and assignments.

  • Skilled in basic math computations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

  • Ability to exercise good judgement and decisions in an expeditious manner.

  • Skilled at setting a good example for others. 

  • Knowledge of United States Postal Services, UPS and Fed EX services.

Equipment Used:
Computer, phone, calculator, printer/copier, mail meter, register, van and other general office equipment. 

Working Conditions:
Regular working hours average 20 hours per week, varying M – F 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. Works on campus in mailroom environment. May need to deliver mail in adverse weather conditions.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform this job.

  • Lifting and carrying 10 lbs. or less frequently with occasionally up to 25 lbs.  Occasionally pushing and pulling mail carts up to 150 lbs. Will need to move within office and drive/walk delivery routes.

This position will be posted for a minimum of five days and remain open until the needs of the position are met.
