Sr. HR Coordinator
We are seeking a Senior HR Coordinator who will be responsible for a wide range of human resources support and consulting services to the department managers, supervisors, and staff and student employees for the following areas: recruitment and employment; payroll, reporting, training and education for onboarding and offboarding, compliance and safety, information management; benefits interpretation; first point of contact for employee relations issues; personnel records management, policy interpretation (FMLA, Short/Long-term Disability, Workers Comp), as well as information dissemination. Serve as a subject matter expert on SuccessFactors Recruitment, SAP, SuccessFactors my Performance and other University-wide HR systems. The position reports directly to the HR Manager.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the creating and processing requisitions for openings across the division in collaboration with HR Manager and/or hiring manager or hiring departments.
  • Has oversight of the entire student employment process including onboarding and offboarding; working collaboratively with hiring managers and Experiential Learning Services. Is the point of contact between the division and Experiential Learning Services regarding policy changes, including software and program updates.
  • Administer the successful on-boarding of new employees (pre-employment process, new hire paperwork, new employee orientation, etc.).
  • Manage all personnel record keeping and serves as internal expert for all benefits related questions/issues. Advises staff on sick time, vacation time, holidays, leave of absence, family medical leave, payroll, tuition reimbursement, flexible fringe benefits, deductions, etc.
  • Responsible for time and attendance forms for staff via E210 system and advises staff and supervisors regarding any time discrepancies, and use of E210 codes.
  • Develop and review job descriptions with managers or supervisors and suggest changes based on understanding of area and need.
  • Assists with answering and counseling staff on interpretation of HR policy and procedures. Gathers sensitive information for personnel matters and serves as first point of contact for employee relations issues.
  • Responsible for offboarding interviews; the offboarding process or transferring employees, badge retrieval, answering questions relating to final paycheck, etc.
  • Assists with coordinating the annual performance review process and communicates with supervisors regarding completion of reviews in Success Factors. Responsible for the distribution of 120-day reviews from HR to supervisor.
  • Maintains and creates all personnel records for staff and responsible for compliance reporting.
  • May perform preliminary interview of candidates. Provides resources to recruitment and compensation staff.
  • Oversee all disability and FMLA requests for the division and works collaboratively with staff, managers/supervisors and JHU HR Business Services.
  • Serve as liaison with HR Shared Services (HRSS) or Payroll Shared Services (PRSS) for various compliance/clean-up projects to include hours & employment status categories, “reports to” corrections, delimiting of positions, org unit changes, etc.
  • Responsible for timely submission of all divisional Internal Service Requests (ISRs) - New Hire, Termination, Leave of Absence, Reassignment, Position Maintain, Hours Change, Salary Increase, Bonus/Supplement Pay, Org Unit Maintain, etc. Follow-up on processing/approval of ISRs in collaborations with HRSS, Divisional Approvers, Department Initiators or utilizing the ISR Log.
  • Ensure the accuracy of the of I9 process in compliance with University established procedures.

  • Ability to make independent judgments, multi-task problem solve, and decision-making skills on a daily basis. Ability to work independently and effectively with employees internally in the department and central JHU HR departments.
  • Must possess good judgement and maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
  • Must have a strong attention to detail and aim for accuracy in every instance.
  • Requires a strong customer service-oriented approach and excellent oral and written communication skills to be able to effectively communicate with all levels of department personnel.
  • Ability to work independently prioritizing own work as needed. Ability to work with flexibility on several tasks simultaneously and to meet various concurrent deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state and local laws and regulations in human resources; working knowledge of emerging trends and practices in human resources.
  • Organized and results oriented.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or other related field.
  • Three years related experience.
  • Additional related experience may be substituted for required education to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated Human Resources and payroll knowledge.
  • Experience working in a technology driven HR environment.
  • Experience working in SAP and SuccessFactors is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with survey administration packages and Excel spreadsheets is a plus.

This is a hybrid position and must be worked within a commutable distance to Baltimore, MD.
