JOB TITLE:  Assistant Vice President for Enrollment

FLSA STATUS:  EXEMPT (salary)

DEPARTMENT: Enrollment Management & Marketing

REPORTS TO: VP for Enrollment Management & Marketing

 

Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management & Marketing (EM&M), the Assistant Vice President for Enrollment will serve as an enrollment thought partner on all strategies and issues related to university enrollment policy, planning and execution of a comprehensive university strategic enrollment plan.

 

The AVP is a member of the EM&M leadership team, which manages and assures the quality and expedience of the university enrollment strategy and planning. The AVP will represent the VP in university committees as needed. The VP will be adept at leveraging data in a manner that assists in setting future enrollment projections The incumbent is in charge of all aspects of traditional undergraduate and international admissions and shares responsibility for meeting the overall enrollment goals of the University and training/organizing the assigned recruitment and campus visit staff.

 

The AVP will participate in all aspects of recruitment and admissions including the representation of the university to wide and diverse audiences, travel regionally and nationally when necessary for secondary school visits, event planning and correspondence. Collaborates with Deans and Department Chairs in support of the recruitment, admissions, and enrollment processing. The AVP’s responsibilities also include co-managing the financial aid-leveraging model with the director of financial aid and in coordination with our consulting partner to ensure that enrollment meets or exceeds projections in head count, discount, student type, and that the net tuition revenue budgeted is met.

 

The AVP will be responsible for:

  • Working closely with the VP on all issues and functions related to UG and international recruitment, veteran/military recruitment, admission and enrollment;
  • Manage undergraduate recruitment and admissions staff, including director of international enrollment, director of UG Pathways and the Manager of Campus Visits;
  • Manage the University Welcome Center, ensure a superior campus visit experience for all new students and families;
  • Participating in the development, coordination and implementation of undergraduate admissions programs including prospect management and strategic planning;
  • Assist with identifying new key markets and strategies that lead to increased enrollment;
  • Ensuring enrollment analytics and market planning leading to freshman and international student enrollment growth;
  • Build strategies to increase yield;
  • Provide budget management for undergraduate admissions;
  • Plans and manages the freshman name search project strategically to help develop new markets;
  • In coordination with the financial aid director, work with financial aid leveraging consultants;
  • Planning (in coordination with the Office of Marketing Communications on branding and marketing) all phases of UG prospect marketing, advertising, publications, and events;
  • Collaborate with Enrollment Management strategic partner/consultants
  • Providing regular data updates, ensuring data integrity and providing weekly reports on achieving enrollment goals; 
  • Assuring that the undergraduate recruitment and admissions plans are integrated and consistent with University goals and direction;
  • Routinely assess/report ROI and key performance indicators for recruitment initiatives and activities, as well as application conversion rates and yield;
  • Build strong relationships with all units on campus; and
  • Coordinate frequently with athletics and student success and engagement

Participate and collaborate in the design, implementation, and coordination of various Enrollment Management projects and planning initiatives with members of the EM&M leadership team including:

  1. Graduate, Adult & Transfer Student enrollment with Executive Director
  2. Financial Aid/One Stop Shop initiatives with AVP of Student Enrollment Services 
  3. Technology-based CRM platforms and systems to enhance the enrollment process and operations with Executive Director of Enrollment Systems and Operations
  4. Marketing and Communication Strategies with Executive Director of OMC

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree required, with three years of senior level experience in college administration/marketing/financial aid or related field, including staff supervision and managerial functions;
  • 7 to 10 years of college admissions experience;  including experience with traditional undergraduate admissions;
  • Effective management/ awareness and familiarity with financial leveraging principals for undergraduate enrollment;
  • Outstanding oral and written communications and interpersonal skills;
  • Prior experience with analyzing relevant macro and institutional data; Ability to leverage data in setting enrollment projections;
  • Conversant with systems and a commitment to technology in admissions operations;
  • Proven ability to recruit, train and motivate personnel in order to encourage a student - centered approach to recruitment and maximize net tuition revenue generation and undergraduate enrollment growth;
  • Experience in enrolling students from underserved backgrounds including first generation and those of low socioeconomic status;
  • Willingness and ability to work non-standard hours including evenings and weekends;
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally and nationally;
  • Experience creating an outstanding visit experiences increasing interest and yield;
  • Set an annual strategic plan, with the Vice President for Enrollment, for undergraduate enrollment and oversee implementation;
  • Hire and provide appropriate supervision of the staff necessary to implement department enrollment goals; mentor new staff and value the wisdom of experienced staff while recognizing and capitalizing on strengths of the entire team through professional development;
  • Demonstrate a commitment to a campus culture that promotes and values inclusion, diversity, equity, and access; promote a welcoming environment and true understanding for students and colleagues of diverse backgrounds;
  • Develop and maintain systems of application and application review for the different enrolling populations; and the program of correspondence to support the different marketing programs;
  • Represent the university in professional organizations, to secondary schools, community-based organizations and other related external venues; and
  • Take calculated risks and lead change within an evolving and ambitious environment.

 

Qualifications, Abilities and Desired Characteristics:

  • Excellent organizational, management, planning and marketing skills; the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to contribute to enrollment management leadership team in innovation, planning and implementation;
  • Superior writing skills;
  • Strong analytic and reporting ability;
  • Creativity and organizational skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to work effectively on committees and project teams;
  • Ability to adapt and prioritize in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to continue to modify operations to remain state of the art and competitive in the marketplace;
  • Ability to manage and organize multiple projects simultaneously; and
  • Ability to bring projects to completion and meet deadlines.
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus
