Job Details

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has established an expansive and multicomponent new Translational Neuroscience Initiative, directed by Dr. J. Paul Taylor, whose mission is to understand and treat catastrophic childhood neurological disease. This new program integrates basic and clinical neuroscience and includes strategic partnerships with industry and foundations to achieve this goal. A key component of this enterprise is the Center for Experimental Neurotherapeutics (CENT), directed by Dr. Richard Finkel.

The CENT is recruiting two academic clinician scientists. Our recently developed clinical program is rapidly growing into additional promising areas of translational neuroscience, especially neurometabolic disorders and the ataxias. Candidates with expertise in other areas of Neurology with high unmet need will also be considered. Substantial resources are available to build a successful program. These positions will be largely research focused, with some relevant clinic time expected. There is no inpatient Neurology attending requirement.

Candidates should have the following: an MD or equivalent degree, with the ability to practice medicine in the state of Tennessee; current certification in Neurology by the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry or the equivalent; and proven productivity as a principal investigator in early and mid-phase clinical trials. Having experience with antisense oligonucleotides and AAV-mediated gene therapy would be an advantage.

Faculty appointment will be commensurate with demonstrated clinical trial experience, publication productivity, participation in academic activities nationally and internationally, and leadership skills.

The essential duties of this position include:
1. Build a team and establish a clinical trial program in your area of expertise;
2. Establish and direct a regional center of excellence clinic for the longitudinal assessment of patients with your targeted diseases;
3. Develop strategic partnerships;
4. Participate in general activities of the CENT.
