Overview

The department of Computational Biology is seeking a highly motivated and experienced PHP Backend/Frontend Engineer to develop web-based applications used in St. Jude’s groundbreaking Clinical Genomics program. The PHP Backend/Frontend Engineer plays a key role in developing novel applications to empower scientists and clinicians at the forefront of genomic research and its clinical application to catastrophic childhood diseases. Successful candidates will have significant experience with modern PHP frameworks and development practices. This includes developing within a PHP/Laravel/PostgreSQL/Vue.js/Linux, or closely similar, tech stack. They should also be proficient in writing unit, integration, and browser tests and increasing test coverage across existing code. This position is located in Memphis, TN, and relocation assistance is available. This position may offer the opportunity to work remotely.


Responsibilities

  • Working in conjunction with Senior Engineers to perform full-stack development of web applications managed by the Department of Computational Biology at St. Jude, including internal applications for both research and clinical genomics.
  • Serving as a liaison to other departments producing data for or consuming data from Computational Biology. Familiarity with bioinformatics/genomics data is a plus but not required.
  • Writing and maintaining documentation relevant to the application’s development and operation.
  • Other responsibilities may include assisting with the preparation and submission of manuscripts.

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field is required
  • Master's degree or PHD is preferred

  • Minimum Experience

  • Five (5) years of internet development experienced is required
  • One year of internet development experience is acceptable with a Master'sdegree
  • Zero years of internet development experience may be acceptable with a PhD
  • Experience in PHP, JavaScript, modern JavaScript frameworks, and AJAX preferred
  • Experience in Object Oriented Programming preferred.
  • Experience in Database Design and Programming preferred
  • Experience in Bioinformatics preferred
