Overview

The same care goes to the equipment and tools used by doctors to perform surgery and procedures.  As a Sterile Processing Technician you would help prevent infection and the spread of disease by overseeing the sterilization and cleaning of medical equipment and tools. Work Schedule: Part-Time; Day Shift (rotating on-call)


Responsibilities

 

Under direct supervision the Sterile Processing Tech responsibilities entail:

  • Cleans, decontaminates, disinfects processes, sterilizes, and aerates medical supplies, equipment and surgical instrument
  • Identifies and responds to system failures by notifying the Manager
  • Stores and distributes medical supplies and equipment
  • Coordinates functions in collaboration with the Manager
 


Minimum Education

  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Surgical Technologist from the National Board of Surgical Technology is preferred

  • Minimum Experience

  • Two (2) years of sterile processing experience working with medical/surgical instruments, disposable supplies and equipment, and monitoring biological test results required

  • Required Credentials

    One of the following is required:

    • Central Service Technician from the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management (IAHCSMM)
    OR

    • Surgical Technologist National Board of Surgical Technology Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
    OR

    • Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician from the Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution (CBSPD)
