Overview

The department of Cell & Molecular Biology at St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis is seeking a Data Analyst I to support their Microscopy core facility. We are a light microscopy core supporting a wide range of advanced imaging modalities, and our mission is to improve reproducibility and rigor in image-based experimental research. The analyst’s major responsibility will be to oversee and develop further the data analysis workflow for our users. They will be a central component in a team dedicated to providing state-of-the-art microscopy resources to the department and continuously educating its user base on optimal experimental design, best imaging practices, and rigorous data analysis. The data analyst will regularly interact with users to advise and support them in their needs for handling, analyzing and presenting complex microscopy datasets. This role will work closely the facility manager and an imaging specialist in order to provide a comprehensive and integrated support from the bench to final data analysis.


Responsibilities

  • Advise, train and support research scientists to analyze the data acquired on our microscopes, providing expertise in image processing, segmentation, and quantification.
  • Interact with Research Information Services to integrate our efforts within the global strategy of St. Jude Research’s environment and infrastructure.
  • Assist the core director with the preparation of training manuals, acquisition workflows, website, and other documentation to support our trainees.
  • Occasionally interact with software vendors to test or update our analysis workflows.
  • Occasionally help the core facility director in teaching and other core activity related events.

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, data science, information science, business, or related field.

  • Minimum Experience

  • Knowledge of programming languages, databases, and software development lifecycle.
  • Some experience with enterprise reporting tools for development of reports preferred as applicable.
  • Some experience working with data loading processes preferred
  • Skills in operating confocal and widefield microscopes preferred

  • Experience of working in an Imaging Facility or using an HPC cluster preferred
  • Experience with multiple programming languages and platforms: python, MATLAB, R, javascript, shell scripting, Git (or any version control system), dokuwiki preferred
  • Experience with commercial and open-source image analysis software: ImageJ/Fiji, Aivia, Arivis, Imaris preferred
  • Experience with multiple operating systems: Windows, Linux, MacOS preferred
