The SIU School of Dental Medicine (SDM) is accepting applications to fill a current Dental Assistant II opening at their East St. Louis, Illinois dental clinic. The SIU Dental Clinics offer a variety of treatments, including the latest advances in dental therapy, in a relaxed and modern atmosphere. Dental Clinics are operated on all three campuses; Alton, Edwardsville, and East St. Louis. The Dental Assistant II is part of the dedicated clinic team that includes students, faculty, staff, residents and fellows.

Daily duties for the Dental Assistant II include but are not limited to:
-Provide chairside assistance for dental students, faculty, or residents who are performing procedures;
-Record patient medical and dental histories as well as exam notes as dictated by the dentist/student/resident;
-Maintain the treatment area by preparing, cleaning, and disinfecting the area before and after each patient appointment;
-Complete all required data entry work in the clinical management software system;
-Prepare instruments and equipment for sterilization or disposes of instruments and equipment in adherence with the Infection Control/Hazard Control Policy.

Additionally, the selected candidates will maintain and assure accuracy of computer logs, including procedures accomplished, cancellations and broken appointments, and other progress forms as required. Other duties and goals may be assigned in support of the clinic’s mission and goals.

This posting is for vacancies at the East St. Louis clinic. You MUST indicated on your application which campuses you are interested in applying. You may indicate more than one campus. Candidates who do not indicate a campus will be considered for all campus clinics.

The hours for these positions are Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (37.5 hours weekly) and require no weekend or evening hours. The dental school (including clinics) is closed for major holidays including Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving (Thursday and Friday) and the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:

1. High school graduate or equivalent AND six-months (6-months) of work experience in dental assisting comparable to that performed at the Dental Assistant I level of this series.**
OR

2. High school graduate or equivalent AND graduation from an accredited dental assisting school (please upload certifcate of completion or transcripts)
OR3. Current Certification as a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) by the Dental Assisting National Board (upload certification).
