Position Summary:
The individual in this position is expected to develop a nationally recognized teaching and research program in the general area of agricultural law with specific topics to be determined by the individual’s interest and the needs of the colleges and stakeholders. The research and outreach program is expected further this position’s goal of connecting and enriching the agricultural law and agribusiness communities. The successful candidate will develop a quality agricultural law teaching program, including the related concepts of either water rights or water quality, in collaboration with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The successful candidate would have teaching responsibilities in both the UI College of Law and the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology. The expected teaching appointment would involve teaching a 2:1 (or 1:2) teaching load, with two classes (one each semester) in the College of Law, and one class in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. The successful candidate will also advise and mentor law and undergraduate students, and chair and serve on graduate committees. The position will be split 50:50 between the Colleges, with the tenure-home in the College of Law.
Minimum Qualifications:
- J.D. from an American Bar Association Accredited Law School, or equivalent.
- M.S. in Agricultural Economics, Economics, or closely-related field; or five year professional experience in business, agribusiness, or related field that requires expertise in and knowledge of advanced concepts and theory in business and economics.
- A record or the promise of excellence in teaching.
- A record or the promise of excellence in scholarship.
- A record or the promise of excellence in fostering an inclusive learning environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, Economics, or closely-related field.
- Post-J.D. practice, clerking, or teaching experience.
- Demonstrated excellence in and understanding of economics and agricultural law.
- Demonstrated excellence in and understanding of water rights, water quality, and/or other specialization related to agricultural law.
- Experience and/or interest in engaging with stakeholder and/or multidisciplinary groups relevant to research, outreach and/or policy priorities in Idaho and the western U.S.
- Demonstrated interest in working with multidisciplinary research teams, including in seeking grant funding
