Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Assistant Director of Development for the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine - Boca Raton, FL.

Reporting to the AVP for Development of the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine, the Assistant Director of Development is responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of prospects and donors. The Assistant Director will assist the AVP in leading the overall development strategy for the Schmidt College of Medicine. The Assistant Director will work closely with campus divisional leaders, as well as advancement colleagues in Division of Institutional Advancement, to support the priorities of Florida Atlantic University.

Summary of Responsibilities Include:

  • Identify, cultivate and solicit new gift commitments at the annual gift ($1,000-$9,999) level and leadership annual gift ($10,000-$99,999) level from individual donors for high-priority endowed and current use programs and initiatives.

  • Meet divisional goals for visits, proposals submitted, proposals accepted, funds generated for each fiscal year.

  • Contribute to and sustain a robust pipeline of prospects through existing communications and event vehicles and develop strategies to identify and accelerate major gift prospects into active states of cultivation.

  • Steward the existing donor community through individual and group stewardship activity that seeks to inform, inspire and motivate enhanced giving. Working with colleagues in the Schmidt College of Medicine and central Institutional Advancement, schedule programs and events that thank donors and highlight the impact their gifts make.

  • Work with AVP and Manager of College of Medicine Events and Community Engagement to develop outreach to and solicitation of College of Medicine Alumni.

  • Work with AVP and Manager of College of Medicine Events and Community Engagement to produce impactful annual College of Medicine Alumni Weekend

  • Partner with Donor Relations and Advancement Events for signature prospect/donor events.

  • In concert with the AVP, support the Schmidt College of Medicine’s Advisory Board development activity; guide development committees’ fund-raising activity that raises gift revenue for priority programs; and lead volunteers in identifying prospects and making introductions. Keep committees on target and productive. Manage development activity follow-up and communication with members and the board as a whole.

  • In collaboration with College and Institutional Advancement communicators, implement fundraising-specific communication plans for prospect and donor groups. Devise prospect/ donor-centric strategies that can be scaled for broader cultivation and stewardship purposes.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience required.

Experience with donor management system software required, Raiser’s Edge preferred.

Availability to work beyond traditional work hours and on occasional holidays; be willing to travel as needed and adjust working hours to meet special needs required.
