Public Humanities Fellow - HRM

Rank: Guest Faculty
Tenure Information: Non-Tenure Track

Job Description
Sarah Lawrence College in partnership with the Hudson River Museum invites applications for a Public Humanities Fellow starting either January or June 2023. This two-and-one half year, full-time fellowship is funded by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

At the Hudson River Museum, the Public Humanities Fellow will organize four exhibitions over two years in the Community and Partnership Gallery. The exhibitions will showcase local artists,
emerging curatorial voices, and collaborations with not-for-profit organizations; while the Fellow will have considerable leeway in curating the exhibitions, community engagement is fundamental to the work that we envision. The Mellon Fellow will also plan and execute programming in
support of the exhibitions, including talks, lectures and workshops, again with the aim of engaging the local community with the Museum, including K-12 students.

At the College, the Public Humanities Fellow will teach one course each fall semester. While the Fellow's area of specialty is open, we anticipate courses based in museum/curatorial studies and/or visual cultures that will engage our students in the exhibitions and in the local community. In the spring and summer, the Fellow will support other Sarah Lawrence faculty and students as they engage in community-based work at the Museum and/or as Museum interns.

The successful candidate will bring to the position an MA or PhD in Art History, Museum Studies, or Curatorial Studies/Practice, or relevant professional experience, including artistic practice. We invite interested candidates to submit a cover letter statement of interest along with a CV; three letters of recommendation; a syllabus/description for a possible course at SLC; and a sample of their scholarly, artistic and/or curatorial work either in print or in a multimedia format. Candidates should also include evidence of their community work through a publication, article, social media post, video, or reference.

The fellow's annual salary, which is set by the Mellon Foundation, is $60,000.
