Position Summary

James Madison College, Michigan State University invites applications for a pool of qualified fixed-term assistant professors/instructors to teach one or more undergraduate courses. These positions could be part-time or full-time, and vary by semester, depending on the needs of the College. It is possible that no positions are needed in some semesters. Appointments are initially for one semester, depending on scheduling needs, but may be renewed based on funding, scheduling need and performance. Salary and rank are commensurate with experience and degree status. Applicants in this pool are reviewed when the College has an immediate need to fill a vacancy as needed within two years to begin as early as August 16, 2022.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in any of the following fields:

Social Relations and Policy

International Relations

Comparative Cultures and Politics

Political Theory and Constitutional Democracy

Introduction to Public Affairs Introductory Writing (Humanities, Culture and Writing)

Successful candidates come from any discipline in the social sciences/humanities. Experience in teaching first- and second-year students is preferred.

Minimum Requirements

The positions require a masters degree for the rank of Instructor or Ph.D. for the rank of Assistant Professor. Applicants should demonstrate commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching.
