The Z. Smith Reynolds Library seeks a library professional with the ability to provide proactive and collaborative services as the Visiting Librarian for the Richard Burr Congressional Papers in Special Collections & Archives, Z. Smith Reynolds Library. The successful candidate will serve as the processing archivist for this collection and support efforts to make it widely accessible and available to researchers.
This is a full-time, twelve-month Visiting Librarian position with Library Faculty status. The Burr Librarian will report to the Collections Archivist and be a member of the Special Collections & Archives Team, one of six teams in the library. ZSR Library faculty are governed by the policies established in our Librarian’s Assembly and this position will be evaluated annually on Librarianship (90%) and University or Professional Service (10%). We anticipate this to be a two-year appointment with the possibility of renewal for an additional year.

Selection preference will be given to candidates with the ability to work independently and on a team in a collegial and proactive manner; ability to plan and implement archives processing projects; flexibility to adapt and respond to the ever-changing landscape of information services in an academic library; and excellent communication, research, and writing skills. This position will require onsite work and occasional travel.
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school or a master’s degree in a related field with experience in archives, special, or research library setting.
Understanding and knowledge of best practices in archives and archival processing.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Coursework or practical experience with digital archives, including principles of digital preservation.
Coursework or practical experience with archival description standards and DACS.
Basic familiarity with one or more metadata standards, including Dublin Core, MARC, MODS.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with ArchivesSpace.
Experience with electronic records.
Experience with large or congressional collections.
Experience creating and/or working from a processing plan.
Salary and Rank: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. We anticipate hiring at the Visiting Assistant Librarian rank. Minimum starting salary for a Visiting Assistant Librarian is $50,000 annually plus a generous benefits package.
