Job Title: OCLS Online Reference Librarian

Reporting Relationship: Dean of Online Campus Library Services

Summary of Position: Working directly with the Dean of Online Campus Library Services, the OCLS Online Reference Librarian will review the current departmental strategic plan to suggest ongoing innovation and partnership opportunities, assessment and evaluation metrics, and appropriate library services to Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) National & Global students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with project manager(s) to ensure website information is current, accurate, and relevant to student needs
  • Collaborating with project manager(s) to create and maintain supplementary student success resources, such as research guides, tutorials, and videos
  • Collaborating with the Online Campus Library Services (OCLS) Dean and library and faculty colleagues to suggest appropriate library, multimedia, open educational resources (OER), rich media, and other digital resources to support IWU National & Global Campus's curriculum development and course writing efforts
  • Providing library instruction and student support as assigned in any modality (in person at local education centers as assigned, online, or through other delivery methods)
  • Assisting students and faculty with software and hardware issues related to library databases
  • Assisting students with basic Microsoft Office Suite support (including, but not limited to Microsoft Word and PowerPoint)
  • Collaborating with OCLS staff to design, test, and facilitate basic software support and training to students via webinar, recorded tutorials, or through other delivery methods
  • As assigned by the Dean of the Online Campus Library Services, providing outreach and other style elements of completed student papers
  • Reviewing student papers for basic APA and Chicago Style citation, documentation, and other style elements of completed student papers
  • Maintaining proficiency in understanding and teaching APA and Chicago citation style
  • Participation in National & Global or university councils, committees, etc., as assigned

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Graduate degree from an ALA accredited library and information science program

Experience

  • Experience in providing professional reference service in an academic setting using emerging web-based and traditional reference technologies
  • Experience with providing library services for distance learning, desired
  • Specific professional reference experience with business, education, nursing, public administration, religion, and/or social work; desired
  • Experience with multimedia design and development of instructional materials; desired
  • Familiarity with open educational resources (OER) also highly desirable
  • Candidates proficient in spoken and written Spanish are preferred

Required Skills

  • Demonstration of excellent oral and written communication and teaching skills for adult students, particularly with technology support
  • Demonstration of a strong commitment to public services
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively
  • Have a valid driver's license for university approved license for off-campus teaching and campus visits
  • Candidate must demonstrate a vibrant, personal relationship with Jesus Christ and willingly agree to all IWU Community Lifestyle

  • Seeking individuals who will work with diverse clientele, stakeholders, and colleagues
