The Department of Anthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University invites applications for an archaeologist commencing in Autumn 2023. We seek an anthropological archaeologist whose research explores theoretical and methodological problems and promotes social justice and the diversification of perspectives in the discipline. Our search is open to approaches that emphasize decolonization, feminist theory, queer theory, critical race theory, and/or Indigenous ontologies and complement existing department strengths concerning subsistence, food production, and socio-ecological systems. Geographic area is open. We prefer a candidate with a research program that includes partnership with descendant/local communities and highlights methods that can involve students in fieldwork and research opportunities. The preferred candidate will also build research and teaching links with colleagues in other units such as those in American Indian Studies, African American and African Studies, and Area Studies Centers. Assistant professors in the Department of Anthropology are expected to maintain an active research program that will attract external funding, engage in collaborative and innovative research that advances and diversifies the discipline of archaeology, and produce publications of high quality and broad reach.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. Demonstrated research productivity and a commitment to excellence in teaching are required. The candidate will have the ability to offer a range of classes which can include archaeological method and theory, archaeology and heritage, and analytical methods at undergraduate and graduate levels. Appointment is contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or university policies, including but not limited to a criminal background check.
