The Research Assistant at the Brown School of Public Health (SPH) joins a vibrant team supporting the Dean’s office and related special projects. The Research Assistant is involved in fast-paced non-laboratory research aimed at addressing key ongoing and emerging problems in public health. Current topic areas include pandemic preparedness and response, crisis communications and misinformation, health equity, climate change and health, and digital health.
The Research Assistant works closely with multiple faculty members and other research team members on a wide range of project-related tasks, including data collection, literature reviews and synthesis, drafting of reports, organization of project materials, and assistance with development of research proposals. The Research Assistant conducts structured interviews, interacts with remote consultants or team members, coordinates project communications, and develops scientific reports and presentations. This individual works as part of a team to compile and analyze information using a variety of statistical software applications. The position also performs additional related tasks as necessary. All tasks may be performed independently and/or without direct supervision in an on- or off-site location.
Major Responsibilities
Literature review and summary (40%)
Supporting Actions: Under guidance of supervisor and direction of senior researchers, carries out extensive literature review of both published and non-published work, examining peer-reviewed literature, grey literature, reports, and other sources. Synthesizes the findings and writes up reports.
Statistical Analysis activities (30%)
Supporting Actions: Analyze state and national data on COVID19 outbreak, largely descriptive but some analytics work. Review and summarize output of analyses using Excel, R, or other statistical software. Present data and draft tables under direction of supervisor. This could also include conducting structured interviews and interaction with remote consultants or team members.
Assist Supervisor with report preparation (30%)
Supporting Actions: Under direction of supervisor and direction of senior researchers, prepare tables and graphs for final report, prepare study documents for scientific posters, methods and results sections of reports and manuscripts.

• Make judgments necessary to conduct the most relevant and up-to-date statistical research possible once specific goals have been defined by Principal Investigator

Job Qualifications and Competencies
Education
Required: Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) with 1 year experience in health services research (or related field). Coursework in related fields can substitute for experience.
Experience
• Experience with healthcare data, medical literature review
