Primary Purpose of Department:

The Office of OneIT provides highly reliable information technology infrastructure, tools, and services to empower the University to achieve its academic, research, administrative, and service goals.

Primary Purpose of Position:

  • Establishes and maintains data workflow processes and related software systems for the Career Center. This role includes administering databases, generating reports and visualizations, conducting critical analysis of data, designing new systems and processes as needed, securely sharing data with authorized entities outside of the department, and conducting or consulting on Career Center related research.
  • Administration of the First Destination Survey process is a core function of this position.
  • Position provides guidance and support to consumers of data to enable well-informed interpretation of data and other forms of decision support.

Summary of Position Responsibilities:

  • Manages software and systems required for complex data analytics and metrics for decision support within the Career Center. Works with the career center to understand business needs and to establish requirements of data collection processes and systems. Utilizes institutional resources to provide accurate institution-level data (such as information about students, faculty, staff and academic programs).
  • Designs, implements, and manages various databases to support a variety of career center programs.
  • Creates reports and visualizations representing career center data. This includes recurring reports, ad-hoc report requests and template reports for sharing data with other departments.
  • Develops or consults on the development or implementation of career center related applications necessary to achieve the objectives of the Career Center. This includes the development of custom applications, as needed, or implementing appropriate externally developed software and systems. Functions as project manager for internal project development and in coordination of the implementation of external tools or institutionally-supplied applications.
  • Works with other OneIT professionals to ensure reliable and secure operation of all career center related systems. Represents the Career Center in technical teams, working groups and communities of practice.
  • Provides research expertise to departmental projects. This may include the independent development and execution of research projects (with IRB guidance), or assisting departmental staff and others across campus with their career center-related research needs.
  • Trains users on new processes, procedures, systems and policies using a variety of teaching modalities.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of programming or data analytics experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Experience using the MySQL and/or Microsoft (T-SQL) languages for data extraction and maintenance
  • Development skills in multiple programming languages such as C#, PHP and Javascript
  • Experience implementing web technologies including HTML, CSS and REST
  • Basic Linux server administration skills
  • Initiative to research and investigate problems and solutions
  • Prior exposure to a higher education working environment and strong familiarity with academic processes
