Description:

St. Michael's Hospital Department of Medicine is seeking a qualified full-time academic General Internist to lead the St. Michael’s Hospital Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM). The successful candidate will be an aspirational and inspirational medical leader with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, strong relationship-building skills, and have the ability to foster workplace inclusivity, along with a record of academic excellence in research, education and/or quality improvement. The successful candidate will be an academic visionary and have excellent strategic thinking skills. The candidate will preferably hold or will be eligible to hold a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. The effective start date is January 1, 2023 or shortly thereafter.

The successful candidate will hold an MD degree and should have, or be eligible for, certification in Internal Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). The successful candidate will also have a graduate degree or other advanced training relevant to their area of specialization – see Tables 1 and 2 at https://deptmedicine.utoronto.ca/clinical-faculty-academic-appointments#Clinicalfacultyapptcategories

The successful candidate will report to the Physician-in-Chief, Department of Medicine at St. Michael’s Hospital. The Division currently consists of 20 full-time General Internists and provides the full spectrum of GIM care including Clinical Teaching Unit, Hospitalist in-patient unit, Medical Consultation Service and Ambulatory GIM Clinics. Members of the Division are nationally recognized in teaching and internationally recognized in both clinical and health services research. Division members participate fully in the undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education programs at the University of Toronto.
