Research Project Manager
School of Medicine, Stanford, California, United States

Schedule: Full-time
Job Code: 4121
Employee Status: Regular
Grade: H
Requisition ID: 95843

The Stanford University Department of Medicine, Clinical Excellence Research Center (CERC) strives to lower healthcare spending in the United States by designing, pilot testing, and evaluating innovative models of care delivery. Our design work is enabled by research in areas including human factors, artificial intelligence, and positive deviance. CERC works with sponsors and national collaborators on its bright spots and human experience research. In addition, CERC has partnered with the Stanford School of Engineering for its PAC program. The PAC research mission is to deliver Artificial Intelligence based healthcare service delivery solutions that improve cost efficiency and healthcare quality. To disseminate insights from this cutting-edge work, CERC and various sponsors are collaborating to translate these findings into practical solutions and evaluate the effectiveness of these interventions on quality and cost.

The Research Project Manager (RPM) (Administrative Services Administrator 1) will work alongside expert Stanford faculty to develop, implement, and manage CERC's research project plans in coordination with internal and external stakeholders. Duties include: development of study strategies and frameworks for human-subject protocols and IRB submissions; coordination and communication with study teams, investigators, and research administration teams across Stanford; communication and coordination between outside third party companies, sponsors, and other external partners; drafting research project proposals in collaboration with sponsors and other investigators; intake and review of contracts and agreements with contracting offices; and the day-to-day project management and tracking of research activities.

Successful candidates are adept at working with faculty scientists, healthcare providers, collaborators, and vendors; experienced at managing large federal grants with multiple project streams; exceptionally organized; highly motivated; savvy in developing and navigating relationships across varied organizations; and capable of working independently. They recognize new opportunities and challenges and approach them with a problem-solving mindset. They thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced, and mission-driven environment.

The RPM will oversee the day-to-day management of a NSF funded grant focused on reducing errors and raising the reliability of care provided in high stakes, intensive care and surgical settings, by deploying computer vision technology as a central element in learning systems that enables healthcare workers to perfect safety-critical work. The RPM will also manage Partnership in AI-Assisted Care (PAC) projects, a collaboration between CERC and the Stanford Computer Science Department, focused on cutting edge computer vision and machine learning technologies to solve some of healthcare's most important problems. The RPM will be responsible for catalyzing progress and will be a critical driver of success in these research projects.

Duties include:
  • Independently implement, administer and evaluate day-to-day activities of the unit, function or program by identifying and executing tasks and objectives, making recommendations that impact policies and programs, and assigning resources to achieve the goals of the program.
  • Collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program or function.
  • Analyze and interpret policies; develop, revise and implement procedures for program or function.
  • Represent the program or function as the key contact and subject matter expert within the department, unit or school. Commit resources and provide information and/or training. May also represent the program or function to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies.

  • May participate in development of budgets, monitor, and approve expenditures. May perform limited forecasting and provide recommendations that determine the budget.
  • May direct staff to perform various tasks and assignments. May also supervise staff.
