The Department of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies at The Ohio State University (OSU) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professorship in Queer and/or Trans* Studies to begin August 15, 2023. The department seeks candidates whose research and teaching focus on histories or racial lineages of trans* and/or queer studies. This focus may include queer and/or trans* of color critique; trans*/queer Latinidad; decolonizing Indigenous two-spirit, sexual, and gender practices; Black genealogies of sexuality and gender; West/South/Central/Northeast/Southeast Asian queer/trans* diasporas; Global South and transnational approaches to sexuality and gender; and beyond. Research and teaching areas of interest include but are not limited to: critical race and ethnic studies; environmental studies; ethnography; history; geography and urban studies; science and technology; critical prison studies; legal studies; dis/ability studies; migrant and refugee studies; literary studies; cultural studies; film/media studies; and art and art history. This position will contribute to the growth of the new LGBTQ+ Studies undergraduate minor in Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies, which hosts a university-wide curriculum and draws from the broad network and history of queer and sexuality studies across OSU’s six campuses. The new faculty member will also assist in mentoring the growing number of doctoral students in the department who engage with this field.

Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies at OSU has one of the longest running doctoral programs in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies in the country and is a leader in feminist studies. Rooted in feminist, anti-racist, and queer social movements in the 1960s, the department continues to deepen its intersectional and interdisciplinary scholarship; commitment to teaching and mentorship; and interrelational political and cultural activism.

Qualifications: Candidates must have their PhD in hand by August 15, 2023. Candidates with graduate training in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and/or a strong interdisciplinary background are preferred. Candidates who have undertaken non-linear academic paths and who have dedicated experience in activism, art making and creative work, and advocacy are encouraged to apply. ABDs are welcome to apply.
