We especially encourage women, people of color, members of the LGBTQ+ community, veterans and people with disabilities to apply.Description:Reporting to the Associate Director of Campus Recreation, the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation is responsible for coordinating work on campus that includes supporting the mission of the department, Division of Student Affairs, and Hofstra University.

The Assistant Director is directly responsible for supervision of staff and facilities, oversight of intramural programming and event planning, and assessment. The Assistant Director is expected to forge productive working partnerships with students, colleagues, and offices across the University to enhance the contributions of all department operations to encourage engagement and collaboration amongst all.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•Assist the Director and Associate Director in providing strong leadership in the organization and administration of the department.
•Create a robust intramural calendar that provides extensive and exciting intramural sports offerings that best meet the needs of our students. Research aspirant and peer institutions for new ideas.
•Maintain the daily upkeep of all Fitness Center facility needs and submit equipment repairs to proper resources.
•Assist with the recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision of student staff.
•Assist with student staff payroll.
•Motivate and encourage department staff, facility patrons, and program participants.
•Maintain inventory of intramural equipment and make recommendations for the acquisition of new equipment and supplies to support programs while overseeing all storage accommodations.
•Assist with the management of department database of facility usage with intramural, club sport, and group exercise class participation and contribute to monthly reporting measuring key performance indicators.
•Schedule facility events and maintain communication regarding programming needs. Attend when needed.
•Create and design all promotional and technical material using the media resources available campus wide.
•Exercise sound judgement and independent initiative; handle time sensitive matters that require concise problem solving and a high degree of confidentiality.
•Serve on Division and University-wide committees.
•Attend applicable training sessions and get involved in campus-wide committees.
•Speak at University wellness sessions, Admissions events, orientations, and student club meetings.
•Monitor First Aid and equipment inventories.
•Manage current social media venues for the department.
•Work closely with other departments such as Athletics, Summer Camps, and Event Management regarding scheduling, supervision, and facility guidelines.
•Performs other related duties as assigned.

This position requires evening/closing and occasional weekend hours.Qualifications:•Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required and a minimum of one year experience in a related field.
•Strong skills in program management, organization, communication, and attention to detail.
•Experience in facility management.
•Ability to effectively supervise and support graduate and undergraduate staff and student leaders.
•Strong passion for excellence.
•Demonstrated commitment to the holistic development of diverse student populations.
•Technological competence, computer mastery using database software (Access and Excel), Microsoft Word, web content management system software, and social media technologies.
•Proven aptitude as a communicator including superior written, oral, and presentation skills.
•Ability to work effectively and ethically with a diverse population of students, university faculty/administrators, and community members.
•Ability to work under tight and changing deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
•Proven skills in project management.
•Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
•Flexible, adaptive to change, and manages risk and uncertainty with poise.
•Customer service friendly and keen ability to resolve situations in a professional manner.
•Ability to engage in public speaking forums.
