POSITION:

Professor of Mathematics – Early College Experience (Spring 2023)

SALARY:

2022/23 minimum is $54,134, commensurate with education and experience. Plus, excellent fringe benefits.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

Minimum of a master’s degree in Mathematics or a related field with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the teaching field.

Ability to teach introductory mathematics classes and additional related mathematics courses.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Ability to relate well to learners of different ages and multi-cultural backgrounds.

Demonstrate commitment to the philosophy and mission of a comprehensive community college.

Preferred:

Teaching experience in high school classroom settings.

Experience in teaching freshman and sophomore (or 100 and 200) level major and general education mathematics courses.

Ability to promote and support the 2+2 partnerships with Arizona universities.

Position Type & Work Schedule:

Accountable for 33 hours per week

Exempt position-9 months

Note:

Completion of EDU 250 – The Community College within two years of initial employment, or transcript indicating successful completion of a similar course at another college.

Concurrent courses mirror high school schedules with lectures taking place Tuesday thru Friday.

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:

Faculty members, both full-time and adjunct, are involved in continuous assessment and engaged in

expanding teaching methodologies and delivery systems to improve student academic success and retention. Full-time faculty will follow an 80-10-10 model, where they actively participate in departmental/divisional meetings and activities, in student recruitment/retention/advisement activities,

in community/partner relationships, and in activities that promote and support the district-wide academic goals of the local populations and the

College. Faculty will be asked to teach on various campuses, via online/hybrid courses, and virtual learning environments; as directed by the needs of the community for a given semester; course scheduling may include daytime, evenings, and/or weekends.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

Teaching Responsibility:

Serves Students. Teach a minimum of 15 equated load hours/semester (to include material and preparation time); develop and grade exams and instruments to evaluate student learning and progress; submission of student grades/progress as required by the programs/policies of the instructional area. Up to half of equated load hours/semester will be taught at the Yuma campus.

Maintain a minimum of 5 office hours/week/semester (part of which must be in the assigned High School post) and direct interaction with students in a formal learning environment for a 15 equaled load hour schedule.

Remain current in his/her discipline, updating course content when appropriate. Maintain standard

syllabus/outline for each course, in accordance with program/procedures. Update course syllabus/outline

annually.

Working with Division Lead faculty and Departmental faculty, develop and implement processes and tools for

assessment of teaching and student learning outcomes incorporating appropriate methodologies and technology.

In collaboration with colleagues and the Director of Curriculum, Assessment & Scheduling and under the

guidance of the Associate Dean/Division Lead faculty, develop a system for evaluation of teaching and learning

including course competency expectations and student outcome measures.

Working with the Division Lead faculty, incorporate results of assessments to modify instruction and materials in general education.

College Responsibility:

Collaborating with Division Lead Faculty and Departmental faculty, Associate Dean, and Director of Curriculum, Assessment, & Scheduling to identify student-learning outcomes; develop assessment processes and tools; incorporate results to enhance/modify instruction and material, degree program, course cluster, and/or certificate program as appropriate.

Working and coordinating with Student Services and the Division Lead Faculty to actively participate in student

recruitment, retention, and advisement activities and programs.

Participation in institutional functions such as, but not limited to, college committees, task forces, club

sponsorships, facilitation of advisory committees, student/faculty recruitment, and mentoring of new and

associate faculty. Participation may be directed by the Division Lead Faculty or Associate Dean.

Maintain 10 positive interaction hours/week. Attend graduation ceremonies.

Serve as a resource for faculty members.

Community Responsibility:

Participate in professional developmental activities outside the College, such as but not limited to, community

events, boards, clubs, and conferences. Coordinate such participation with the Division Lead Faculty, Associate

Dean, or Vice President for Learning Services, as appropriate.

Serve on local and state advisory committees as directed by the Division Lead Faculty.

Additional Responsibility:

Participate in adjunct faculty recruitment.

Serve as a resource for adjunct faculty.

Budget for equipment, materials, and supplies to support courses of primary responsibility.

Work with Department and Division faculty to help develop and support intern, research, and work experiences for students at all levels.

Work with Division Lead faculty and Departmental faculty to develop and implement Open Educational Resources (OER) content.

Develop an active program of study that will complement and extend the current mathematics offerings in Yuma.

CLOSING DATE:

The position will close at 5:00 pm on September 11, 2022. The first review of applications will begin on September 12, 2022. The position may reopen if a suitable candidate is not found.
