Research Communications Coordinator

Office of Research, Innovation & Economic Development Division of Research Communications

Full Time Position

Description:

Works as a member of the Office of Research, Innovation and Economic Development (ORIED) to support the dissemination of information to faculty, staff and students, and administrative leaders to strengthen understanding and awareness of ORIED activities and services.  Builds and maintains select websites, creates and distributes targeted e-newsletters and multimedia elements, and posts to social media.  Provides assessment of digital performance to inform improvements for consideration.



Qualifications
Duties/Responsibilities:

Content Creation and Distribution

• Executes predefined digital content strategy to maximize campus awareness and understanding of ORIED activities and services across multiple digital platforms and channels, including creating strategic content for various channels, helping determine content roll-out plans and post/managing research-related content.

• Designs, curates, and maintains research-related websites using user-centered design principles and web standards.  Sites include research.utk.edu/oried, and a future intranet for UT staff and faculty use.  Maintains sites and content to maximize SEO performance and user experience for key audiences.

• In coordination with the internal research communications manager, creates and/or prepares multimedia for twitter, facebook and Instagram, websites, and e-newsletters that meet the established UT Research brand identity with a focus on internal communications.

• Builds and distributes e-newsletters to UT faculty, staff, and students, including creating customized content.

• Executes social media strategy to increase campus engagement with ORIED opportunities and events and share faculty and student achievements, including creative multimedia content for posts.

Digital Engagement Analysis

• Monitors engagement across all ORIED digital platforms and provides periodic analytics and insights (in the form of engagement reports) to the manager to identify successes and opportunities for improvements. Tracks and analyzes predefined metrics for intranet performance and adjusts execution of internal communications strategy as needed.

• Maintains and updates targeted distribution lists for e-newsletters

• Conducts ongoing research of digital activity of peer, target and aspirational institutions to help inform and evolve ORIED’s internal communications strategy.  Ultimately, will advise team on required improvements and lead execution.

ORIED Team Engagement

• Attends team meetings and client meetings as needed, and makes suggestions to improve tam processes and/or functionality.

• Uses project management system to stay current on project work.

• Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of using twitter, facebook and Instagram

Knowledge of using smart email marketing platforms (like Emma)

Knowledge of managing website content in a CMS (such as WordPress)

Knowledge of creating and optimizing multimedia for multiple digital platforms (to include images, graphics and video)

Knowledge of using Adobe Creative Cloud suite, including PhotoShop, Premier, Illustrator, InDesign, Spark, XD and others, or ability to learn these platforms)

Good interpersonal communications skills

Ability to work on multiple projects will rolling deliverables

Ability to meet deadlines

Ability and interest to learn new complementary skills in the digital space

Ability to act professionally and interact well with team members and campus partners

Provides and is receptive to feedback and constructive criticism

Desire to protect and promote the university’s reputation

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of Google Analytics

Knowledge of SEO best practices

Knowledge of digital content strategy best practices

Knowledge of user-centered design, web standards and web accessibility standards

Knowledge of foundational digital marketing strategies

Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suites

Graphic design skills

Ability to edit/customize written content based on platform and audience needs/knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style rules

Education/Experience

Required level/Type of Experience and/or Years of Experience

Associates Degree in communications or related field and 2-year of progressive experience related to job responsibilities, which may include internships or student employment

Preferred level/Type of Experience and/or Years of Experience

Bachelors Degree in communications or related field and 2-year of progressive experience related to job responsibilities, which may include internships or student employment
